Hope you have happy motoring, they’re a lot of car for the money at the moment.

Well done - glad to see you didn't hang about - hope you have many miles and smiles!

However, without pics - it didn't happen!

Down to 29mpg after a trip down to Dorset via 45min crawling along the A34 last night which did it no favours!

I averaged 69 mph and 45 mpg on a trip back from Raines Park to south of Winchester the other day - 2011 LCI 335D

I don't go crazy, but I do enjoy the car and my regular mpg is 39 mpg - coolant temperature runs at 89 degree C

I’ve only just started looking so not driven an S6 yet but I’m almost worried to do so in case I really like it. Still very tempted by the S4, the only worry being the timing chain issue. As with all these things though, you only read about the failures on the internet and not the thousands that are running with no issues at all.
Probably already covered by others, but the S4 is one to avoid. I use a highly thought of vag specialist that strongly advised me to avoid. Had several in that were effectively written off by the owners due to chain repair costs.
The later SC ones are apparently bomb proof. Sadly holding their value too well.

Yes, there are plenty of cheap V8 S4s around now and quite a few for “spares or repairs” with knackered engines. Too much of a risk I think and as you say the later model is holding its value reasonably well. Most start at £10K for 130K+ miles.

My dilemma is over anyway as I purchased the replacement practical family car today. Went for a slightly left field choice - A Grand Cherokee with the 5.7L Hemi

I never knew that buying a car for 6k would be such a long winded affair.

You need to have deep pockets and/or friends in the trade to own anything with the S85 engine.

Given the built-in obsolescence, one day the e60 M5 and e63 M6 will be appreciating classics but I wouldn't recommend discussing either in any 'budget' car sense.
