    Favourite acquisition of 2018?

Well it’s that time of year already! I personally have had a quiet year this year for watches acquired with only one in! So by default with is my favourite this year!

Mega comfy and a perfect holiday watch.

What is your favourite acquisition this year?

Yesterday morning I would have easily said my Speedmaster, but as of yesterday lunch time it is probably my new Black Bay 58.

I only bought one other watch in 2018, and that was a Seiko 5, so it wasn't a hard decision....

My all time favourite psychedelic poster 'Mick & Vince' by Martin Sharp from 1969. This one is extra special as it came from the personal collection of Felix Denis. Had it professionally restored and framed and it now takes pride of place in the living room.

    Watch wise, this:

Thanks. Not many, but this sneaked in late and is my favourite of the few that did come in this year...

Two very, very, fine watches there. I would also find it very tricky to choose between them. That strap on the Offshore is particularly lovely.

Looking back over 2018, it's been a quietish year for me. A change of job meant less income but more free time. That’s a nice balance to have. The largest single amount of watch related expenditure was the cost of a service on my Sub. Once again a big thanks to the excellent staff at Hamilton & Inches who discounted the cost, due to the fact that the watch had barely been worn since its last service. It was very generous of them.

New incoming was focused at the lower end of the spectrum where nonetheless just as much fun can be had!

March saw the arrival of a 35th Anniversary G-Shock, my first ever ana-digi watch, the GA-835A-1A. This is now on a combi-bracelet and is still a favourite.

In May, I bought a Pepsi Digi-tuna the SBEP003. While an excellent watch, I didn’t bond with it, as I prefer my G-Shocks. It went off to a new home, via SC. The only one in this year that's gone.

September saw me buy my first Steinhart, a 42mm OVM Mk.3 from Neil at Chronomaster. Mine arrived badly regulated but after a trip to Duncan at GenesisWatches, it’s now running perfectly. It’s a heavy watch but very well made and pleasing to the eye, I love those sword hands.

I particularly like square G-Shocks and this year I bought a couple. Just this month, I felt the need to reacquire the economy model, the DW-5600E which is the ultimate beater and a definitive watch. I struggled to find one new at a sensible price, as they seem regularly to go over £70. Eventually I managed to get one new for under £50.

The other was purchased back in June, my second 35th anniversary G-Shock, the DW-5035D. This is the model with the screw in caseback, gold trim and dot-screen on the LCD, with a GW-5000 like soft resin strap. It’s a beauty and has the clearest LCDs of all my squares.

Overall though, my winner is the OVM due to its quality and outstanding value for money.
    Have a great 2019 everyone!

Up The Pools, local football team. Was offered an arm and a leg by a well known Sky football pundit and declined nicely.

Only 1 actual tick toc purchase this year based on a limited amount of cash after house renovations.

But a few fun straps to go with it.

Hoping next year brings more mechanical fun.

This one for me, just hits the spot in terms of function and refinement:

Close second, the MM300, it’s a quality piece as we all know:

An identical 79180 to the first I bought new in 1995 when I was in my early 20's, it feels a little like an old friend homecoming (apologies for this photo I have posted a few times now, I need to get some better ones)

Simon - your OP looks sensational in that pic!
