I cannot remember the book but I read about a Russian honeypot Hotel in the Cold War. Diplomats would be placed in the hotel and it was rigged for sound and video. They'd then get them drunk, film them in compromising situations and blackmail them.
When they tried this with some Chinese diplomats, they had to keep stopping to explaining this was a blackmail attempt as the Chinese diplomats kept clapping and asking for copies of the tapes to show to friends.
