A sad day indeed. Jose has brought some great times to the league. Sunday's game against Liverpool was a personal high. Ta-ra, speshul one.

As a City fan myself I get where you’re coming from but I think United’s problems are more deep rooted than just José.
You have to wonder how many top flight clubs will be willing to take him on.

He failed to adapt and move with the times, but the soft headed french players should also be cleared out the club in January, they are gutless and lack professionalism.

I wondered whether they were doing badly. My 9 year old son has Man Utd everything. This year's letter to Santa has West Ham everything on it.

I think Jose has taken them as low as he could and they need further assistance in dropping further .
Hopefully they’ll give it Giggsy til the end of the season

Give Eddie Howe a crack... he'd be ace

This season is effectively a write-off. Best to get a caretaker in for the season - not necessarily an ex player, most of the Man U ex players who've gone on to be managers have been quite awful.

As much as it has been enjoyable to see Man U so terrible, I think the league is better with them challenging for top honours.

Castigating his players so publicly was never going to get the best out them, regardless of their nationality. The contrast with the way Klopp nurtures his squad is marked.

Indeed, for over 10 years in fact! At the same time as winning all those medals!

The boy has some stamina, I'll give him that*

Impressive, given he never went to a World Cup or Euros final. But he did win SPOTY if that counts.

Who on earth will want to take the job on with what’s gone on since AF retired, maybe £20 million plus pay off if you don’t succeed will encourage a few applicants?

    My money is on Pochettino

He should have been given the job for life, they could have been playing Sunderland in another season and half

He was doing a great job of destroying the heritage of the club :)

I hope they get Eddie from Bournemouth. A young British Manager who has done a great job over the last few years.

Not a big enough name for United but would be an enlightened choice.

Zidane would just be another short-lived marquee signing who would bring in a different set of expensive under performing big names.

It’s bad throughout, ownership, executive, failing team.

Funnily enough, we were laughing about these two taking over yesterday . The dressing room half time talks would be interesting to say the least .
Anyway, OGS is probably the best I could’ve hoped for after the Giggsy / Scholesy/ Keanoey combo I was expecting . Dark days ahead 👍

Has OGS been picked to be cheap, loyal and pliable, while behind the scenes someone sorts out next year?

I would love any from the likes of Keane, Butt, Giggs, Scholes, OGS, Hughes, Bruce, Cantona, McClair, Stam to be a potentially great United manager, but they’re not. Shame.

I think it is going to get worse. However, one of the great seasons for me was Doc’s Red Army in Div. 2, but let’s not get melodramatic.

How’s Brian Kidd doing? Perhaps we can borrow him?

OGS cannot fail to please the fans. Even if Utd continue to play crap and lose all their games - he will always be thanked for 99.

I wonder, thinking about what the Man U statement said yesterday, if he's been told that what they want from him is getting the old style back, and not to worry too much about achieving anything much in terms of results.

  42. #42
Results would come if they played anything like the way Utd played under Fergie.

They have good enough players to qualify for the CL but there's no cohesion, no desire, no leadership or passion. A million miles from the way Liverpool, City and Spurs play under their managers.

The evidence was on show on Sunday when Liverpool absolutely battered Utd for large periods of the game. Even when Utd were at their peak and beat Liverpool in derbies, most of the matches were close, bitter, hard fought battles and every player gave 100%. That wasn't the case on Sunday.

The season is a write-off, so results won't matter as long as we're not relegated!!

Good appointment in my view - gets the fans onside, and buys some time to try and get a new structure in place.

I believe MU would have to pay Spurs £34m compensation to bag Pochettino as he recently signed a new 5 year deal. Spending is out of control in the Premier League.

Sell Lukaku back to Everton. Should just about cover it.

I was sorry to see this as I was hoping he'd pull it round, but there's clearly just something in his psyche, some vain, bloody-minded unwillingness to compromise that becomes toxic in his third season at a big club. I'd have to allocate the players an equal share of the blame, but it's a lot easier to change the manager than the squad.

Still - he's won the PL three times and has an equally impressive record abroad. No-one can take that away from him.

It was always going to happen, he did the same at Chelsea, Inter and Real. He tends to win early days and then slowly his arrogance turns the players, owners and fans against him and he gets sacked. What is the longest he has been at a club? The good thing is this time at least he did not win much with United!
