I've used transferwise in the past with no problems
The last time I paid by bank transfer in Euros for a watch in France, Lloyds skinned me with a poor exchange rate and high fees.
What's the best way to pay in Euros, please? PayPal?

Yep Transferwise, I use it a lot. Paypal if you want to benefit from the protection it offers you as a buyer.
+1 for TransferWise.
Also check out Revolut
Used them both, and both excellent
Can you pay by credit card? if so get a Halifax clarity mastercard. You get spot rate and there are no fees on foreign transactions (although interest starts to accrue straight away so make sure you pay off asap).
Alternatively as has already been mentioned a revolut card is very good but I think there is a limit on the size of transaction you can make at spot rate with no fees.
+1 for Transferwise
you can also get a card from them in preferred currency if memory serves me right. Monzo uses TransferWise to do their currency exchanges.

TransferWise, Starling Bank, Revolut, Monzo or if you need a credit card Halifax Clarity are your best options
Used transferwise and can’t fault the service
I'm a big fan of Monzo, been using them for a long time now. I didn't realise that 0% international fees applied to making personal payments through the app to international recipients; I thought it was for using the card abroad. Good to know.
Let me know if you want a Monzo invite, we'll get £10 each if you use the code :)
PayPal.
I did a Santander international transfer to Germany in Euros this morning and got charged £15 for the privilege.
TransferWise will also tell you comparative rates from several other providers. So, you can see straight away if they are competitive.
Revolut Card... almost get spot price
I agree that TransferWise is the way to go.

Another vote for Transferwise. Simple, reliable and you don’t get shafted on the exchange rate
there exist an italian bank called Fineco, which lets you have accounts in multiple currencies - you can use those for payments.
