Fancy dress prop recommendation - Colt Peacemaker / cowboy gun?

A bit of an odd one I know, but I'm going to cowboy themed fancy dress thing on New Year's eve and I am just considering my options. Do I spend £10 on plastic kid's gun and throw it away or a bit more an get something to keep? I'm sure there will be a few rounds (caps) let off at midnight and I would like to join in!

Anyone have any insight? The usual sources (ebay, Amazon) bring up a toys of undefinable quality and size and google shows it's possible to spend a couple hundred £'s on serious replicas but I fancy something mid range, around £50?

    Cheers - Simon

Go for the the cheap gun.
    The cheaper the better.
An expensive or accurate replica will mark you out as an anorak.

A few caps out of a good replica let off in public might just get you a visit from a few with Glocks that will neither be impressed or use blanks.

This^^^^ I had a replica PPK that we'd used in amdram, the noise was deafening when firing a round, much more than required at a party.

It will be midnight, new year's eve, in a village hall, in the middle of nowhere. I think I am prepared to take the risk of a few caps going off amongst all the fireworks.

It's a very friendly village with a good sense of humour and some extreme characters. I'm not worried about being thought of as an anorak.

Interesting to hear you’d be prepared to be a midnight cowboy

Something plastic and as obviously fake as possible would be the safest bet. Previous posts weren't too cautious.

Not a good idea. If its any way realistic and you are in a public place for any length of time you are exposed to numerous potential problems. Most of which will boil down to you being in the wrong if someone reports you.

I believed that now all blank firing replicas had to be finished in day glo colours to try and help prevent the police from ‘gatting’ citizens in error and that you needed some kind of certification and valid reason such as prop provision for the film and tv industry.

I’d like to thank you for your erudite and illuminating reply.

This would seem to support my understanding http://21infantry.co.uk/forum/printthread.php?tid=12

Perhaps you could throw some more light on this?

Did you mean the omission on my part that anyone over 18 can buy the day-glo option, but for realistic blank firing replicas have the restrictions?

It's perfectly legal for Simon to purchase a current replica 6 gun for his New Years celebrations.

as for anything else may I suggest you bugger off back to your much loved Brexit thread and argue with your cronies there.

The replica guns are sold as props for film, theatre and re-enactment use. We can only ship them to a UK address via courier (excluding the Isle of Man, Isle of Scilly and the Channel Islands which we cannot ship to because of flight restrictions). Sorry we cannot send them outside of the U.K. They are made to look and feel realistic and although they are made from metal, it is not a gun metal and they are designed so they cannot chamber or fire any rounds of ammunition. They are designed for prop use and they have moving parts, although excessive use will wear the parts out, worn out parts are not covered by the warranty and the manufacture does not make or supply spare parts.
    Please read the following restrictions. Due to the current British law it is illegal to sell this reproduction firearm to anyone apart from to the following people or organisations;
    Museum or gallery
    Theatrical performances
    Films and television programmes
    Historical re-enactments events
Members of re-enactment or military vehicle groups
Crown servants for the purpose of employment

    We must obtain proof that you fall into one of these groups before we can send your order. Acceptable proof would be;
A letter from the museum or theatre company
A letter from the commissioning film/TV company
A copy of your re-enactment/military vehicle membership card and relevant insurance certificate
Proof of requirement for use in conjunction with employment (Crown Servant) e.g. Letter from commanding officer/manager confirming the use is for the purposes of employment such as training

You can send a copy by post, fax or e-mail quoting your order ref.

Again, Simon is after a colt peacemaker, exempt pre 1870, also cannot be adapted.

now I understand you are an argumentative f*ck, and had to run off to the draft thread because you felt slighted on this thread but please just pi$$ of back to the bear pit to argue Brexit as it suits your acidic nature better.

So let’s get this right you respond to my post with a unhelpful single word response, make no attempt to open a dialogue or clarify any misunderstanding. I respond and ask for clarification and you can’t/won’t and tell me to bugger off.

I quote multiple sellers who clearly state rules relating to replica gun sales and you dish out more abuse... I suggest you have a look in the mirror and re-evaluate who’s argumentative and acidic...

As for the op buying a peacemaker well, it looks like the sellers belive they fall within the restricted category, but what would they know, they just sell them.

Seriously, they’re legal to buy but to carry around in this climate?
The chances that it goes wrong are small, but if they do the consequences are genuinely not worth it.

Correct. He could buy a replica AK47 and be fine but walking about in public with even a moderately realistic toy is not a smart thing to do.

You guys are out of touch.

It's not legal to SELL someone a replica anything unless they have a defence under the VCRA outlined earlier.

You can only be sold a RIF if it's dayglo'd without such a defence.

New Years Eve parties are not a valid defence...
