Thread: Home stereo

    Home stereo

Would anyone have any recommendations for one around £150-£200.

It’s basically something I can connect my phone to and be relatively portable. I don’t really listen to the radio but it would be nice to have it.

I do have an old amp/cd/record player setup but it’s bulky and not very portable.

Bose SoundTouch 10 or better still a SoundTouch 20 if your budget will stretch a little

Or the Roberts S2, its predecessor two of which I picked up new on Amazon for £49 each which is an amazingly good price for a speaker that was over £200 at launch.

I use two UE megabooms when travelling. The fact you can use them in stereo over bluetooth and get proper separation means they blow anything else out of the water.

Sounds like a half decent hifi setup rather than a blutooth speaker.

Pretty sure the smaller booms have the same facility.

Home 'stereo' for that price I would say the denon DM41 is the go-to system. Its pretty small so could be quite portable. Sounds to me though you want a Bluetooth speaker.

If advocate a Sonos 1 at that price. Sound quality is really weighty and it’s all wireless, no cables is a bonus.

I tried the Sonos Play 1 and have to agree the sound quality was superb. My only gripe was the lack of Bluetooth meaning you had to subscribe to a streaming service, Spotify in my case. Because the Bose SoundTouch has Bluetooth you’re able to listen to anything without subscribing. Every so often cancel my Spotify but I’m still able to listen on my speakers via Bluetooth. A big tick for the Bose in my opinion. Plus it has 6 dedicated radio slots for easy access to internet radio.

I bought one of these for the kitchen. The sound quality is excellent and it's neat enough for Mrs Sish not to complain:

I bought the white version. It links to my phone with Bluetooth.

Rule of thumb with any audio/hi-fi - try, listen to, before you buy.

Got one of these - Sony CMT-X5 to replace my Pure Contour kitchen radio, excellent sound quality which was the reason I bought it, FM, DAB, plays CD (remember them?) and very easy to stream anything via Bluetooth. Actually, listening to it as I type :)
