    Watchwinder For Vintage Auto

    Hello all,
    I have a 1960s Rolex Zephyr which I don't wear too often. I have read that older automatics should be worn more often as it helps keeps the watch going in terms of preventing lube dry up. I'm not an expert by any means but this makes some sense. If this is indeed true, would a watch wonder be a good idea and if so, can anyone recommend one that won't break the bank!
    Many thanks!
    Oli

    Too late......

    The 'advice' is the total opposite to what I advocate. I would never put a vintage automatic watch anywhere near a watchwinder. The auto-winding parts are the bits that usually wear out on old watches, running the watch 24/7 will exacerbate this.....it's total madness.

    In my limited experience the lubrication on a watch that isn`t worn deteriorates at a far slower rate compared to one that gets lots of use. Some of my watches get worn very sparingly and they still give good figures on the timegrapher despite not having been serviced for several years.

    If the watch has been serviced in recent years it should be fine, the oil will stay exactly where it was intended to stay and there's absolutely no benefit (in my opinion) of keeping it running.

    Watchwinder = wasteofmoney
