I remember the Tissot rock watch, a work colleague owned one and he eventually started collecting serious stuff!
I still like the rock watch, a unique design.
I remember gazing lovingly at these through the jeweller's window during the lunch break when I was at college. The Rock Watch was cool too.

I remember the rock watch being advertised. A couple of guys at college had the Tags as it seemed to be the watch of choice for the "casuals".
Those F1’s were £79 new - I had at least 2 of the variants in that advert. I remember people years later (I kept them as holiday watches) if they were ‘a real Tag’ - even back then £79 was about 3 Swatch’s!

Heuer/Tag Heuer definitely had it right in the mid to late 80's
Although this early 80's Tissot has some great design of the era.
To my shame I had the rock watch, a Christmas present from my parents and the RW was a birthday present...Rock watch didn’t last long, the RW I think just ended up getting put in a bin after sitting in a drawer for years.

80s was the best decade, no arguments :-), but general industrial design was eclectic and generally hit or miss. For me watch design peaked in the 70s with the designs and influences of Gerald Genta. The Tissot in this thread shows a continuation of the design language of the 70s into the 80s but the decade will probably be remembered for digital (Casio) and cheaper plastic (Swatch) watches.
