Has anyone owned a minute repeater and if so, what was the experience like?

Hopefully you won't have to wait long for someone to chime in

I take it you're not counting the Aerospace which IMHO is cheating.

I've got an IWC Portuguese minute repeater. Beautiful watch in my opinion, although it's disappointing that you can't see the gongs strike through the display back when the slider is depressed. The chiming sound is lovely though. One of my favourite watches, and it always surprises people when they hear it.

Not owned one - I did post a thread which garnered very little attention here - https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...inute+repeater

The cost of ownership scares the hell out of me! Animalone on here recommended if I wanted to get into this game to look for older pocket watches - can be had for a lot cheaper, but servicing is a huge scare. It maybe worth sending him a PM to see if he's come across anything.

Oh man as cool as it must be, not seeing the gong when striking is a bummer!!!

I was going to post something about Shellman, but whilst having a Google, I found this TZ-UK thread from 2003:

These are powered by the Citizen 6760/Miyota 6U60 movements. Beside Accurist, there are Jacques Lemans, Lorenz, Bulova, and even Invicta models of this watch, as well as those from Citizen themselves.

As crazyp stated, you can find good pocket watch repeaters for "relatively" little money, a couple of grand can buy a good example but there is always the risk that they need a service and that could cost as much again.

I was in the Breguet boutique in London a few years back, and while they sorted out a link in the bracelet on mine the sales lady wanted to show off some of what they had in stock. After showing me a few and chatting for a while she said I should see something special, and she brought out the above.

It truly was the most beautiful watch I have ever seen in the flesh, and the sound was lovely. It is also the most expensive thing I’ve ever held. She quoted me £167,000.... I’m sure there was a deal to be done though.
