At least they are tackling this crime, and credit to them, they are putting their own safety on the line.

Well done to the Police, if it's making a difference then hats off to them......here's hoping it makes the watch thieves think twice before attempting a robbery.

Just hope the when caught the CPS/Court system prosecute, the sentences are to the full extent of the law....

Goes with the job, the territory doesn't it, the clue in the name The Police Force...you can't deploy force without a certain amount of risk to self...

Pleased to see and will be interesting to see who the thieves are and whether they can disrupt the buyers of the stolen property.

From the videos I saw on Youtube, surprised how many were in gang.

I hope the spotters get the same sentances as the actual robbers.

As they will be well aware of the violence used.

Hopefully the police are back tracking to see where the spotters where operating from.

I wonder if they are giving the coppers real Rolexes or convincing fakes.

Or maybe they just get the bent ones to do it, and they use their own Rolexes.

I don't have the same faith or confidence you have.
It won't change anything unfortunately. We will read about this for a long time.

Most of these scumbags put up a bit of a fight, so I’d hope they get charged with attempted theft and either assault on a police officer or resisting arrest. Or better still all 3 offences.

Hope it's okay to post links from Reddit here, but here is a video of the undercover police in action.

I couldn't see it there - might have been removed?

Looks like it has been. Unfortunate, as it was quite satisfying viewing!

I might be cynical, but would be interesting to see if they include these incidents in their detection statistics.

Actually, The Met are a service, not a force.

They don't seem particularly quick in springing the trap...

Who buys (if the thieves are successful) the stolen high end watches ? I imagine traceable with ser #s ? I wonder what price they are sold on for ? if needed I bet serviced by those that ask no questions.

Could be a similar racket as high end cars where they go to places abroad where few questions are asked.
I'm sure a variety of people from all walks of life are involved tbh.

From what I've heard about it, this is what happens. Anything that's a "hot" model and in short supply will be happily purchased far above RRP in other countries where conspicuous consumption is part of the culture, there is minimal worry about where an item was sourced and they are away from the jurisdiction of UK law enforcement. Whether the slowdown in luxury goods sales that seems to be happening will ease global supplies to the point that this kind of crime is no longer wildly profitable remains to be seen.
