A Ceramic sub would surely not look so battered, date misalignment, no papers and selling on Gumtree really gives the game away.
Price is usually the first clue, as that question keeps getting side stepped I’m going to assume it was ‘cheap’
I’m genuinely surprised someone hasn’t dug up the advert on gumtree yet! Oh & the sellers Facebook account, relationship history and physical fitness level. Shame on you guys!
Jeeezo, gumtree looks like THE place to get a ROLECKS. I’m gonna be rich!
Obviously gumtree are not too bothered about the illegal activities going on.
Probably OP trying to throw us off the scent to prevent losing the deal
What the hell is going on with gumtree...
I looked up the London watch co and it shows as a dormant ltd company. May not be related but makes you wonder what’s going on really.
The only chance you may get lucky on gumtree... some old dear thinks “I’ll put dereks old Rolex on that gumtree our Denise uses to get rid of her baby clothes but first I’ll check the prices... oooh £200! We only paid £60 in 1967”
Ok girls, time to stop being bitchy now. Surely there's a new nail-bar somewhere to be discussed??
Move along. Nothing to see here....

Lol - that's what you get for starting a Rolex thread round here! For some reason they almost all go down the pan lately.
Hmm is there any way to ask an authorised dealer to 100% guarantee the authenticity of a piece ?
That is a screen grab of my 'gumtree app' favourites list.
I took it for your benefit to try to offer some incidental proof that the Ad I was quoting had indeed existed and that IT'S op had since deleted it, or it had been deleted by gumtree suspecting fraud.
This, I HOPED would explain why your trawl yielded no results.

Someone who lies about the little things will lie about the big things too.
Ok. I deserved that.
In my defense, I was born blonde and today was a learning experience.
I'm not sure about the 'profit' dig though (you really have made your mind up that I'm a wrong'un haven't you?) I'm after a daily wearer pure and simple, the condition doesn't worry me so much as long as it's mechanically sound.
Incidentally, I hope no-one here thinks I was consulting 'mugs'; I asked because I know there are people here who really know what they're talking about whereas I (obviously) don't.
So, I'm grateful for the help, but any gaffs on my part were just that - gaffs. No agenda.
Everyone wants to believe that there's still a bargain out there, surely? Wouldn't one be foolish not to ask someone who knows better?
So, if anyone wants to ask me a question about blade steel, forging, edge geometry, accurate shooting or a civil engineering related issue, fire away. I'm happy to help if I can.
If I've reacted strongly, it's only been against inferences that blacken my character. We all buy and sell on this forum, so digs like that, even in humour, have consequences and in the absence of any proof are irresponsible.
My humble apologies!

All good mate.
Someone who lies about the little things will lie about the big things too.
On that note, and for the sake of completeness, I've had my reply ;
"So as apposed to going into a shop with certified authentic professionals that do this all day everyday, your going to believe people from a forum?"
I said 'Yes' and he said no more....

Why not go to see it and offer a webex session for some live online critique? Sort of like "you've been framed" for 21st century watch geeks :D
Here's a screenshot of the cached version of the original ad (now deleted):

Goodness me. Is it really this easy to rip people off for two grand????
Paul I cannot you were prepared to drive 300 miles for such an obvious fake.
And on “getting a bargain” - were you born yesterday? Anyone with a relatively modern Role. - particularly from the last 15 years or so - will know exactly what they have and exactly what it’s worth. And no-one willingly chucks away five grand. So if it seems too good to be true, it is. Rolexes are very expensive and people don’t like losing money.
Also, my golden rule is if you need to ask whether it’s real, don’t proceed with the transaction. You’re either not sure of the watch, not sure of the seller, or you don’t know enough about what you’re buying.
On any of those grounds, back away.
You’re not going to run across some happy old codger on gumtree who just wants a few quid for his well-loved sub that he spent £7k on. Rolexes are expensive. Pony up and use someone proper.
