Thread: Your advice please regarding these Rolex Day Dates

  1. #51
Look forward to pics, sold my 18238 last year and regretted it!

Been trying to buy it back since!

They wear great on the bracelet. Hope it lives up to expectations.

My friends vintage DD got returned from Rolex service with the bracelet removed and packed separately. Rolex wouldn't service the bracelet and said they didn't think it 'safe' to wear. I think he's going to try one of the specialists, or just ignore the issue....he wears it every day, without fail.

    Here it is.
Like others have said, once it’s on the wrist, you wouldn’t even know.
The only thing that I noticed is the bezel is not as sharp as others that I have seen.
The service cost £500 plus a new crystal, a strap and a pin buckle plus the dreaded VAT, pushed the price over £1,000

    Update:
I have just purchased a 118238 from 2014 with black dial a luminous hands and batons.
It was not my intention to:
A, buy such a new piece
    B, spend so much money
    C, with a black dial
But when I saw it, just loved it.

I had bought the one from Austin Kaye, the watch was nice but the stretch was too much, the bracelet felt really light slack.

So, fortunately I was able to return it and bought the 118238. The bracelet is so heavy and feel so well made, as does the clasp.

    Have a lovely Christmas everyone

    Tony

Well, I did say it looked totally shagged. Well done on the replacement, much better!

    Thanks gents.

    Anthony, you were absolutely correct.

    Cheers Stephen.
    It feels so substantially better.

I think that if you had never experienced the 118238 before, then the 18038 that I had would be fine and certainly wouldn't let you down.

However, the additional weight and strength of the newer bracelet, left everything else behind.

Black dial’s a good combination with yellow gold, the watch looks superb. I think you’ve made a good decision provided you’re happy with the expenditure........I’m sure you’ll be so pleased with the watch you’ll mentally gloss over the ££££ involved

To quote a famous 80s pop song........’If you’re gonna do it do it right’......I think this as ‘right’ as you can do it without going the whole (expensive) hog and buying new.

    Enjoy!

Having previously seen a photo of Anthony's I think that is what attracted me to it, especially with the lume markers and hands.

I love it, it’s definitely the model I would go for if buying an older model, and I’ve been looking for a while - there are a few about from time to time, but I’d prefer a full set with a full and really good bracelet, and that seems to limit options.
It's just a matter of time...
