I wish that I knew what I know now, when I was younger.

My brothers and I finally managed to persuade my mum to get an automatic washing machine when she was in her 50s. A few days later i was talking to her and she got quite emotional about the amount of her life she had wasted on washing things by hand and in the twin tub.

I was reminded of this the other day when i was winding the hedge trimmer cable onto an H frame and thinking how much time and anguish these things now save me in tangle free cables and frustration free Christmas tree lights. The impact on my life hasn't been as dramatic as the washing machine had on my mum's, but i too had found a delightful time and frustration saver in my 50s.

I wonder if anyone here had a similar experience or tips to share. It's never too late

Didn't get around to using the inbuilt dishwasher in my house for 2 years.......

If I could go back in time I would punch myself.

When I met my wife they never had a microwave, after a meal they would always have a pudding and quite often it would be something steamed that would take hours to cook.
Until I showed her the microwave instructions on the back ,they’d never thought of buying one.

That boxes of foil have little push in tabs on the sides of the box to keep the roll from falling out when you use it.

I was as surprised as anyone!

One of the many lessens I try to live by from my dads wisdom is where you can afford to do so, exchange time for money. One great area we have implemented this is by using a gardener. What would take me all day every other weekend in the summer (time I now spend with my family) has been great. We also take be family car to a car wash instead of me cleaning it. Again, saves 3 hours each time I would clean it.

Investing in pensions is ok - do more of it.
Buying watches brand new is like buying new cars, you'll lose money
Talk to more girls (they don't bite) and get better patter for the love of god
Think do I really need this before you buy - anything
You'll never eat sprouts or cauliflower so you can tell mum to stop trying to hide them under the mash spud
I'll start to lose my hair so grow it long while you can.
Don't buy those round flip down sunglasses, you look a bellend

Rice cooker - the amount of times I messed up rice .

h frames - just bought some didn’t even know they existed .

Over the years I’ve been doing more DIY and have bought good tools as I’ve needed them. good tools make a tough job easier.

It makes such a difference eg a good cordless drill rather than having to pull out a corded and extension cable etc .

I should have bought good tools sooner!

That my mum and dad's advice about studying was right and even though they kept on pushing it and I rebelled against it, they were right.

Should have learnt as much as I could on a broad range of things, so I would not have to rely on others, whether: Builders, electricians, plumbers, financial advisors etc. You're kept waiting, sometimes for ages.

Same about having the right tools solves a lot of problems.

Have talked to more women and had more women. Gained experience and got married to a good one, rather than the grumpy etc nightmare I am with. Nicknamed " Grumptilda."

Buy shares in Google and got into Bitcoin.

Poor old Granddad I laughed at all his words
I thought he was a bitter man
    He spoke of women's ways
They'll trap you, then they use you before you even know
For love is blind and you're far too kind
    Don't ever let it show

I wish that I knew what I know now
    When I was younger.
I wish that I knew what I know now
    When I was stronger.

The can-can such a pretty show
    Will steal your heart away
But backstage back on earth again
    The dressing rooms are grey
They come on strong and it ain't too long
For they make you feel a man
But love is blind and you soon will find
    You're just a boy again

When you want her lips, you get her cheek
Makes you wonder where you are
If you want some more then she's fast asleep
you're just twinkling with the stars.

Poor young grandson, there's nothing I can say
You'll have to learn, just like me
And that's the hardest way, ooh la la
Ooh la la, la la, yeah

I wish that I knew what I know now
    When I was younger.
I wish that I knew what I know now
    When I was stronger.

    Study harder.
Go to the uni to learn what I really want(ed) to become: a vet.
Don't marry my first wife. Took a lot of my well-being (and my pension fund for that matter... Took me a long time to climb out of that financial hell hole).

Apart from that, I'm pretty satisfied with how things have turned out.

That the little arrow next to the petrol pump symbol on the dashboard indicates which side of the car the filler cap is on. So many, many rental vehicles before I cottoned on.

Just found this out, on a iPhone, when typing and you make a mistake, press and hold the space bar and you can use it as a movable cursor instead of holding your finger in the text. So much easier ( it’s possible this is common knowledge but I didn’t know it)
    Cheers..

Works similarly in Android, you just slide over the space bar to move the cursor. Been like that for years.

I bought a hedge trimmer last year, was happily using it one day when a neighbour asked why, considering how much hedge I had to trim, I hadn't bought a wireless rechargeable one. I had no idea such things exist. Damn.

You don't know how many sentences I've deleted just because of a small mistake and not being able to get the cursor to the desired position.

Works on an SE, which is basically a mini 6s.

More likely if your iPhone can take the latest iOS, it should work
