    Hey all! New member here.

Hope you don’t mind me joining your watch community :)

My wife doesn’t quite fill my quota of watch chat....nor does she have any watch chat to offer for that matter haha! So thought I’d be better off joining this forum and talking to you lot :) Hope you don’t mind me chiming in now and again.

    All the best.

    Red face

Hi Mike - I'm a newbie too, this is my first message on the site.

I am new to the watch world, in all honesty I didn't even know what a movement was 6 months ago. I saw some things on Youtube though, and have become somewhat obsessed! I'd actually love recommendations on any good horology books I can add to my Xmas list! I made my first acquisition a few months ago - a Longines Jamboree. I adore it, champagne dial and really satisfying manual wind. I have to say I am fairly sure now I've learned a bit more that it is not all original - the dial and hands definitely are, but the caseback and crown are unsigned which doesn't appear to be consistent with that model. It is quite tough to find information on though, so next step will be to send it to Longines - I need another watch to keep me company before I do that though! I have a long list of wants - I'd be interested in people's thoughts? My current list:

    Submariner No Date
Tudor GMT Pepsi (I'm waiting for this to arrive having paid deposit)
Tudor Prince Date or Rolex DJ (the gold and SS versions, I'd ideally like one from my birth year 1986)
    Breitling Navitimer
    Seiko 5 SNZG09K1
    JLC Memovox
Grail: Rolex GMT Coke (I tried one on about 2 months ago and not a day goes buy that I don't think about it!)

    Pleasure to 'meet' you all

    Hello Mike and Jon boy

@ john boy I have just found out I have a Longines flagship thats a bit of a mixture of parts. Its the joys of having a vintage watch passion. I'm also now thinking about sending mine off to Longines . Maybe we can get a discount for 2

@Robbo12 yep definitely part of the charm!

Haha bulk discount would be good, we could probably get a few of us to club together on the forum!

And here is a wrist shot:

Very Nice, Is it the 13z movement in these?

I wonder if we can do a forum group buy with Longines

Welcome Mike, it's a great place this - you'll learn a lot, and it is humourous, and friendly. Luckily my wife is into watches, so some chat occurs, though not enough, hence being here.

    Welcome both!

It seems we share a birth year, and I assume a first name Jon8oy. I always thought a white face Buckley dial DJ would be a cool birth year watch. I'd also love to see a memovox irl.

I wore my navitimer solidly until I picked up a 16710 pepsi earlier in the year now that never leaves my wrist, so excellent choice of grail!

It has got the cal. 280 movement, I've got a shot of it here http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...psveukugow.jpg

As you can see it is a pretty nice example and the watch runs very nicely indeed. It's nice as an everyday watch with a suit for work on the black leather strap, but equally works as a dressier piece too, especially with the champagne dial. I'll never sell this, that's for sure. It goes too well with my kilt!

Many thanks for the warm wishes folks, greatly appreciated :) I am lucky enough to have gathered a few nice watches over the years. Vintage rolex is my passion but my collection consists of anything from leonidas to bremont. I’ll fire up some pics when I work out how to actually do it! Haha. Cheers

Ah, lots in common already! Yes the Pepsi is lovely, no wonder it is a permanent fixture for you. I'm excited to get the Tudor variety, having tried on the blue bezel BBH I was pleasantly surprised by the size. I have modest sized wrists so thought it may wear a little large, but so much nicer than I had expected.

I have my eye on a couple blue faced SS DJs from my birth year, think that's what I will go with. Just pure class as a watch. Definitely prefer the smaller sized watches personally.
