Used to watch John "hohoho" Wilson with my dad when I was a kid. Sad to see he's gone.

I honestly thought this referred to an old WUS member who was a really decent chap. Now I feel relieved that it isn't him but strangely heartless that I do feel relieved.

Sad news indeed. Had the pleasure of meeting him in his shop in Norwich many many years ago, before he became famous.
    Best Regards - Peter

I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.

Sad news, I often went into his shop and he was always willing to chat and give advice. A lovely man.

I’ve never been fishing, probably never will, but, fishing programs are a bit of a guilty pleasure and John Wilson was my gateway into them. RIP.

Never really into fishing, but somehow got hooked on watching JW... whiling away hours in a boat, nothing going on, then suddenly, 'hello, we're in" and all systems go...hoho.
    Legend. RIP

Yep ,much the same sentiments here .I never got into fishing but never the less found his infectious enthusiasm and knowledge very entertaining .R.I.P.

What a shame, had zero interest in fishing but always watched his programmes

Seamed to be a really nice man

For those here that have said they have never been fishing but loved watching John is just a great accolade for how good he was..

And if you have never been fishing just give it a try, a beautiful summers morning on the bank is hard to beat, from there you might even enjoy a cold wet day like I do!!

I read his book once - I think he and his wife were once both hairdressers on cruise ships before he got into fishing.

Terrible news. He got me into fishing as a kid and I still fish now at 41.

    Great ambassador.
