    Any Dentist on the forum?

I have for years been using Euthymol toothpaste, my dentist in Coventry was happy with me doing so. Fast forward to my new Dentist here in Northumberland and she has told me not to use it. Telling me to use Colegate. ?
Why Colegate and not Euthymol or any of the other brands?

    Any advice please.

Did you not ask her the reason for her recommendation?
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

Yes, she said she only recommends Colegate!
I asked why, she just said see you again in 12months!

I've a friend who's a dentist, I asked him what is the best and he said there all much the same whether cheap or dear. We use Oral B toothpaste which I find keeps your breath fresh longer, nice peppermint flavour.

I think the way you clean your teeth is much more important than the type of paste you use.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

It's just that she prefers it...no other reason.
They are all the same. My dentist is always saying that I shouldn't use an electric toothbrush and that a decent, normal brush coupled with a proper brushing routine is best. My wife's dentist has the exact opposite view.

I’d not heard of Euthymol before so Googled it. It’s a toothpaste with no fluoride. I bet that’s why your dentist is recommending Colgate to you.

They're mostly all similar. As long as it isn't extra abrasive & has fluoride in it. Then it comes down to do you like the taste & how much does it cost. I use whatever we get given as free samples. But not the Oral B stuff cos I don't like the taste.

I see a lot of people who clean their teeth much worse with an electric toothbrush so only recommend them to those who are absolutely awful at manual toothbrushing. There's a hell of a lot of those though.

If you're manually dextrous & think about cleaning every tooth surface of every tooth, you can get your teeth 100% clean with a manual toothbrush plus interdental cleaning aids like floss or TePe brushes. If you don't clean effectively between your teeth every day with floss or interdental brushes then you are NOT getting your teeth clean

I wouldn't recommend it for that reason.

I use a normal toothbrush and tepee interdental picks.(orange)
She did say use an electric brush, but then again my Coventry dentist said keep doing what you’re doing. I did wonder if Colegate had a push on with them.

My dentist told me to use a few brands and to swap over every 2 to 3 weeks? Claimed that using the same meant that your mouth got used to it in terms of fighting the stuff that lives in your mouth and swapping helps?

No idea if it’s true but in our house we have up to 4 different toothpastes on the go.

I think that's unlikely. More likely the absence of fluoride.

I'd also recommend the small version of the TePe toothbrush (I think it's called the compact). The toothbrushes that I see in Sainsburys & the like generally have heads on them which are far too large. If you want to get into intricate spaces, you need a small headed toothbrush.

Think I might try the swapping technique. I’m used to Euthymol which I love the taste of, so swapping sounds like a plan. Rather than just “Change” cos I say so.

You're Jaws from the James Bond movies and I claim my five!

My dentist (she's a feast for the eye as well... but that's for another part of the forum) recommends an electric brush and Elmex. I'm always wondering if they're paid by the factories...

Are we still talking about brushing teeth here? https://youtu.be/E3lp_ICBHUg

Seriously, my mates wife who works in the dental dept of London Hospital says the same - it stops gum erosion as you tend to brush harder on one side of your mouth if you use the same hand all the time.

As a kid I got bubble gum all over my chin, my mum used gin to get it off! My kid doesn’t know how lucky he is to be born in a world of “I don’t like that, it upsets me” on Facebook!
