Mindful of the weekend's commemorations , I thought this might be interesting/sobering.
At a recent exhibition in London called "Aftermath" this footage was being shown and gives some idea of some of the awful destruction wrought in Northern Europe.

This is a pretty awesome resource generally and I've spent many happy hours looking at old maps of the UK.
Then I discovered there are old WW1 (and WW2) maps. The WW1 maps show trench lines:
