Sold at a Glasgow auction house last week. Thought some on here might like to read about it.

Crazy price for that condition
Not your normal double red though.
Dial looks a little brown, original superdome crystal and crown (which suggests it may never have been serviced or polished), with box and papers.
Sold to a gentleman from South West England........anyone here?
And I’ve just heard it was a lovely chocolate brown dial in the flesh.
I don’t think that’s expensive tbh.
You can pick one up for about £7k without the original Gay Feres bracelet (which this doesn't have) but this is the rarer black sub-dials version so the buyers got a bargain I think.
Difficult to get new good condition bezels too, so a lot of the value is in that as most other bits can be replaced.
Still, probably a decent price.

What the hell happened to the bezel pip? Looks like it was ram raided!
Of course......all superficial, if actually unpolished, one good service and polish from Rolex and or Michael Young and it would look like new and the polishing would be virtually undetectable.
90% if the value of vintage Rolex Is in the dial, the box/papers/tag/etc and chocolate dial make it a special piece.
Interesting read, thanks. Amazed £37k is considered value!
Welcome to the world of vintage Rolex.
This one http://thevintageconcept.com/product...l-dial-1665-3/
Is £55k and has no box or papers!
Yep, I do know the thin case Mk1 variety are changing hands for £100k, frightening!
