I have owned both and to be honest the 16660 is a bit to much like a 16600. If you really want the vintage feel and look then it has to be the 1665 complete with its Superdome.
I have a rail dial 1665 and it really is a joy to wear.
I'd like to add another vintage Rolex to my collection. However, I am not sure which SD to choose. The DRSD is too expensive for me. It would have to be a Great White.
Or the second option is the 16660 with a Pallettoni dial.
What would you recommend? Especially in the current market. The prices are becoming crazy.

One more note. I usually wear my watches. At least once a week.

They are both lovely and have that warm vintage feel that comes with tritium 'non' surround dials
but nice as an early 16660 is I agree with Andy the 1665 is just that bit more special with plexi and dimensions and given prices are not too far apart I think 1665 GW is the way to go.

Letting my 1665 go is my biggest watch selling regret and believe me, like many on here, I’ve got a LOT of watch selling regrets.
No worries .. I love 1665’s
just wanted to make sure the matte dial 16660 was being differentiated from the gloss
Here’s mine

It seems that 1665 is getting more votes. I'd love to have a Rail Dial, however, the prices are becoming crazy. Mondani has just sold one for 30k EUR.
M&j watches have had a 1665 Rail Dial in for quite a while

I've just got an offer for 1665 Comex for 122K. Ridiculous.
Well since I have just taken delivery of a 1665, I wouldn't really know what to say :)
Agree regards the history but just not the aesthetics.
