If it was my only watch, explorer. It suits anything anywhere anytime.

If I have other watches, datejust.

Two very different watches, there is no right answer. It depends what fits in with your life, your collection, your tastes.

Me, right now, the Explorer, but I'd love the DJ too... although I'd never wear it.

  4. #4
I’d normally say DJ for the date but of those two the Explorer.

That’s not a great combination of DJ parts IMO.

The DJ for me please, really love the bracelet and for me would better fit my collection. The black explorer is pretty much faultless though isn't it.

    Mmmm...

DJ's nice, but the Explorer does it for me....I don't need a date/cyclops and the Explorer is a cleaner dress/sports mix....imho.

    I'd take that.

    Can't believe it's now a 5 grand watch though!

If I was working in an office, it would only be something discreet such as the Explorer. It is just a beautiful watch that no one else hardly notices. You wear it because you know it is good and that is enough for me.

The DJ would attract unwelcome attention in the office as the bezel and the Jubilee just scream ROLEX and that is the last thing you want.

For casual wear, the DJ is fine but for me the Explorer wins hands down.

I prefer the fully brushed look of the Explorer so would choose that.

Two watches, two wrists.. Don't see why you need to choose.

I agree with this, I actually prefer the DJ but wouldn't buy it for that reason, too flashy.

114270 explorer would be my choice. 214270’s too big for my wrist. So, to answer your question, the DJ since it would be a better fit.

Explorer. More to my tastes, in fact it is my favourite Rolex.

For me it always depends on what you already have though.

I like the Explorer much better now that they lumed the 3, 6, and 9 (and if they do that to the Air King, who knows what might happen). If it's between these exact two watches, I guess I prefer having no date to having a blue dial, but if the DJ was a black dial, I'd go for that.

Just to buck the trend - if it was my only watch, I reckon the DJ, and if one in rotation then the explorer.

    Buying, selling or just curious?

Possible buy probably next year. I think I'm leaning towards the Explorer.

My first Rolex was a DJ with blue dial and white gold bezel. Loved that watch and wished I'd never got rid of it, so for me it would be the DJ

Well, it's done me proud as my only wearer for over two years now, so the Explorer.

DJ for me. Particularly if it’s a “second” watch. Could be tempted by the Explorer if it was an “only watch” choice.....

Well I don’t think you can go wrong, though just to complicate things, have you looked at a 39mm oyster perpetual? Mike posted recently comparing his OP and DJ, and I think they look awesome.

I think it would be the Datejust that would edge it. If new and a DJ41 it will have the 70hour reserve movement I think as well.
With the smooth bezel it's not too bling either. Nothing wrong with a Rolex looking like a Rolex imo.

I think it all depends on your tastes and needs, both are fantastic watches. Today I'm in an Explorer kind of mood.

Well - put the fluted bezel the DJ and I would chose that one. I did have an explorer but it’s long gone. That is my personal choice - depends what you are looking for.

Explorer all day long (probably because it's been on my want list for years).

DJ bezel is far too shouty for the world I inhabit.
