Speaking as a born Londoner I’m not so sure about the London buildings engraving on the back - it makes me think of a tourist souvenir stand. And anyway, they left off the Barbican!
Why "Seamaster"? It's as far from a dive watch as its possible to get. It's pretty, but it should have been in one of their other ranges.
Omega’s product ranges are a bit bewildering, but a Seamaster isn’t necessarily a diving watch. Historically, it’s referred to a range of watches, everything from divers to naval inspired waterproof watches that look like dress watches by today’s standards. Constellations are even harder to define, but I think DeVilles are supposed to be precious metal. A Seamaster can be more or less anything! This one is I think based on an old design that was a Seamaster, but it could just as well have been a Constellation.Originally Posted by Man of Kent

I don't think this will be received warmly on the forums, but I think it's tastefully done and I'm sure there's a market for it. Meistersinger did something similar with their City Editions. I think the Dutch city versions at least were quite successful.
I like the watch, I don't care for the buildings or London references, although it might look cool in 50 years time. If there was a Speedy from 1968 with a case back like that it would probably be worth a fortune. I'm not convinced this watch needs it all.

They have always put dressy watches under that banner as well – not sure what exact year this is from but I could never have imagined diving in it!
As I understand it the first Seamaster's were more tool watches but look like dress watches to us now. They incorporated improved (for the time) seals and case back gaskets etc to enhance water resistance and a number of old publicity shots show them being worn on boats or near water.
The fact that there are many pieces still going strong after 50+ years is testament to how rugged they are.
Within this context I think that its fine to carry on the Seamaster name with designs that aren't what we have come to regard as dive watches.
Personally I dislike the bloated case sizes (36mm+) and date windows of modern variants - but that's fashion / progress I guess.
I love the blue face but the 'special' edition seems a bit pointless
I’ve got my name down for one but TBH don’t think I’ll be lucky.
There was a Geneva one mentioned on Watch Talk month or so ago.
Looks interesting, and I'm sure they will sell. Not for me however

The Barbican is not on the back of it because:
A) Its ugly,
B) the other buildings are better and more famous \ recognisable.
The watch is a Seamaster as it follows in the line of the Venice Seamaster and also the Switzerland Seamaster Collection Editions.
Available only in London Boutiques and it is not sold out at present. There is high demand however.
I do not represent Omega and these comments are from a reliable source.

The design’s nice, I like it, but it’s way too big for my taste. Note the distance between the date wheel and the edge of the dial, always a giveaway that the watch is a bit big for the movement.
The London thing is a typical Omega marketing ploy, they do play the ‘limited edition’ card heavily thesedays.
For those who question the Seamaster notation, I suggest you do your homework. Dive watches have always been a subset of the Seamaster range, during the 60s and early 70s dive watches sold in tiny numbers compared to the conventional models. Omega coined the name in 1948 to highlight the water resistance, a major selling point in those days. By the early-mid 70s several of the Geneve range used the same cases as Seamasters and all were rated to around 30 metres.
Omega have produced some excellent Seamaster models over the years, they’ve also produced some real turkeys........viewed objectively I guess this latest offering is somewhere in between, but for me it’s closer to the ‘turkey’ end of the scale, quite apt considering the time of year. If it was smaller and didn’t have the London silliness I’d be more impressed.

Here is an example of one of the first Seamaster designs. This is a 2577 from 1950 and is pretty typical of the early designs, full of Radium goodness. As noted by Paul, they were pretty dressy at first, before they went diving at the end of the '50s:

I think I actually prefer that, always a good colour combination on Omegas and the buildings looks more interesting / exotic. In fact I realise I've completely missed the point of the watch due to being a Londoner looking at the London version. It makes perfect sense as a souvenir of visiting another city on a great holiday. No wonder the London one feels touristy, that's the idea.
Tourists won't be able to get one unless they somehow got on a foreign AD's list months in advance!
The Singapore version looks great!
Prefer it to the London one.
The Singapore version is lovely although I'm not a massive fan of the city line engraving on the back.

Congratulations Binsull. It would be nice to see it on the wrist. The City of London skyscraper cluster on the back is out of date already, but I guess the cheese grater, gherkin and walkie talkie are more iconic than the monolithic 22 Bishopsgate that's now towering over them, and the generic looking 1 Undershaft aka 'trellis' that will appear soon (the planned 'diamond' aka cheese grater 2 looks more promising).
I have to say the New York version of this watch looks rather appealing, a very subtle greyish dial vs rose gold hands and indices colour combination, fortunately not all new Omegas are yellow gold and burgundy!
Now imagine if they made this in 36-38mm, without the date and with a straight crown...

It’s ok just found the size, think it’s too small for me as I prefer 42-45mm. Lovely looking watch though.
