    Chronos -suggestions

I sold my Speedmaster 3573.50 last week with the intention of replacing it with the slightly smaller First Omega in Space.

I tried the FOIS on yesterday and while I liked it I did not immediately think it was a must have.

I am not normally a chrono fan but I feel I need I need one in my collection.

Any suggestions but nothing over 40mm or over £4,000.

If anyone wants to sell me a ceramic Daytona for £4,000 I have taken the liberty of deleting my pms so my inbox is empty awaiting the offers

If you fancy something totally different (and you will not see anyone else wearing one) try the Siduna M3340, which I reviewed in prototype from in the summer.
Due for release in 14 days....

Certainly not a Speedmaster, but it is equally legible

Heuer Carrera? Stunning looking, and much more suitable size.

As mentioned a Heuer Carrera '64 re-edition for a little over half your budget.

Really interested in some of those. Never had a Sinn watch before and they have some nice chronos but the Tag white dial looks lovely.

I sold my FOIS a few months ago with the intention of replacing it with a Blancpain LeMan Flyback Chronograph. I haven’t been able to find the right watch yet, but they are available for around the 4K mark.

Alternatively, I am now considering a Zenith El Primero which can be sourced around 4K new from grey dealers.

Sinn 356 is a good shout. Here is my UTC version.

Here with the UTC hand hidden, for a cleaner look.

The current limited edition Sinn 103 is a cracker. Have seen it in the flesh and it really pops. I saw it on the blue and the tan strap and the tan works a treat. The blue strap one is still in the AD but it won't be difficult getting a tan strap for it. https://www.fratellowatches.com/sinn-103-sa-b-e/
Oh and it is a lot less than £4k new and close to your 40mm limit.

How about considering some of the vintage Omega Speedmaster 'Mark' series, or the Day/Date (4.5)? Case size iirc is 40.5mm and all should be available within your significant budget.

You can sometimes get a CP2, Zenith...El Primero movement...for around£4000, lightly used. Killer watch, perhaps my favourite chrono.
I mean, just look at it. Gorgeous, and highly readable with no silly date feature to crowd the dial.

    Chronos -suggestions

I love the Zenith chronos but the CP2 is too big for me unfortunately.

Went in and tried the FOIS again and I think that is the winner. Thanks again for all the suggestions except the Guess watch

Hope to bag one in the next week or so

I quite fancy one of these. Longines Avigation Big Eye. It's 41mm though. FOIS is a great choice too.

Either of these 2 sound like a superb buy- a class of watch way above the standard Omega etc (price bracket of 4k), I just wonder if they have very expensive servicing costs.

Also Zenith make some exceptionally chronographs in the 4k price bracket (bought with heavy discount/grey dealer)
This Zenith is next on my list (already have aMoon watch & IWC Portuguese)

Watches of Mayfair seem to be offering the best deals on these if buying new.

As others have alluded to, a Zenith El Primero would definitely be my choice. Its so stunning! I have the 42mm and always have people admiring it.

The Farer is pretty good. Went to see Farer earlier in the week and their watches are great pieces. A great deal of thought goes into their designs, more than I realised.

Sorry, just my opinon, but those Farers are frustrating for me.
Most of the design elements look fantastic, really good.
Then they go and dob a brass/bronze crown on it. Why????
And then use the greenest lume possible, it looks especially awful on the brown and black-dialled version. Yeuch. The sort of stuff you saw on Vintage Sorna;s that never glowed, ever.
A real case of a few details spoiling a real classic.
    For me

Concur on the CK2998 suggestion, it is the same case as the FOIS, just a different dial.

Or 40mm of chunky, archaic old school..

One of the ultimate chronographs imo.

A flick over at 41mm and £4620 list price on leather but could be bagged for £4k if you shopped around.

    Worth considering.

I have/"had" the non-date version of the Type XX ("Aeronavale" IIRC)

Pic above "borrowed" .....as was the watch! My son liked it so much I gave it to him for his graduation.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago from SC which is quite nice - but I'm a sucker for the Lancia Stratos

I tried one of these on in store and loved it. It’s one of those watches I’d never taken a second look at after seeing renders and online pics. I saw it in the metal and thought it was awesome, didn’t find it as big as everyone makes out it’s going to be either.

The'yre a lovely watch, and one i've considered for sure. Some say it's a bit 'confused' in its design as it's essentially a 200m diver-cased chrono with screw down pushers (that some regular users of the chrono functions may find annoying but i think the Daytona had them). Either way it's chalked up on my wish list.

Not too sure about the latest one though, those crown guards kind of ruin it for me :

Oh noooo , please choose a Tudor's chrono from the Rolex's era, a big block is far better imho :
