    Longest 20 mins ever.

Trying to divert my mind whilst my first born (almost 7yo) has 4 teeth extracted under GA. It is routine for the hospital, but not for me.

I remember when my oldest daughter had her appendix out (she was 6). I was balling like a little girl when they took her in!

    She'll be fine mate.

Nothing wrong with that Dave. Even the hardest of men cry.

Can I ask why did they need to have 4 teeth out?

Poor thing. She will recover well but the moment it is being pulled would make anyone squeamish.

My daughter had about 14 teeth pulled over the years since she was about 4yo. 7 at once under GA at that time. And this year she had a further 6 removed over 5-6 visits to the local dentist with no anaesthetic! That was particularly difficult.

Reason for her was the new teeth were coming out and being blocked by existing teeth, plus she has a very small jaw.

Thanks guys. Awake with a sore mouth and all went well. Biggest sense of relief ever.

Hospital said not allowed ice cream until tomorrow. Strange I thought.

I am sure she will be fine but it is for sure traumatic!

If it helps one of my boys had a minor hernia opp when he was 7 and I was all butch and strong until I saw his little body on the trolly after the GA kicked in then like other have said I cried like a little girl! Actually makes me choke up thinking about it nearly 11 years later!

It’s very tough. You have to trust the specialists and know that it’s for the better but it’s never easy. You’ll all need some hugs. M

I can totally relate to that. Looking at her later in the day after we got home, kept getting emotional. Watching her eyes close as she dropped off was not pleasant.

I can relate to that and feel for you. My 8 yr old girl’s appendix burst last month. I was with her when they gave her GA and she went to sleep holding my hand. After they showed me out, I had trouble understanding the simplest of instructions about where to wait ... and I don’t even consider myself emotional or sensitive.

I thought the “nasty operation” (surgeon’s words afterwards) were the roughest 2 hours for me. But when she got an infection and was struggling to recover for a few days, she asked me these questions when in severe pain: “Daddy, will I survive?” and “Are you sure I will survive?” ... That was tough.

Kids are resilient and get back to normal incredibly swiftly though. She spent 5 days at the hospital but then went from being on the verge of needing a second op to getting discharged and coming home within the space of a day. 3 days later you wouldn’t believe she had a major op. On day 5 after coming home she was running around in the park! I am sure your child will recover quickly too

Assuming the GA extractions were done due to tooth decay.
Maybe a good idea to avoid the ice cream as its this sort of stuff that causes it I'm afraid.
Glad the wee one is ok.

My eldest went in for a circumcision under GA at about the same age (not for religious reasons, it was medically required!) and I remember holding his hand as he went under - just awful, but I had to act brave for him! Fast forward a day and when the dressings came off he and I both shared a shocked expression as we surveyed ‘Frankenstein’s monster’ as he referred to it!! - my god he was brave, just the thought of it has put me off my lunch!!

My daughter had 2 extractions done under heavy sedation using gas and she also had an eye operation under GA neither are experiences I ever want to repeat.
