Try an exorcist?
Strangest thing just happened, I was putting the kids to bed and then the upstairs lights started flickering and then went off. I have checked the fuse box and nothing has tripped....... any ideas?

Check both live and neutral in the first rose to misbehave
Have you tried resetting the breaker?

Change the bulb maybe.
Did you pay your leccy bill?

if is just the lights may have part tripped so turn off & back on again. Otherwise check any RCDs on the breaker board.
'Nothing has tripped'.
I lost half my sockets at work last week - the ring main is in two sections and one of the sections the neutral had failed.
Have you tried putting another shilling in the meter?
Lose connection in lighting circuit, check junction box or even circuit wire into distribution board, could be that? Good luck.
I thought this was going to be about a poster in the Brexit thread from the title.
Cheers..

Hahah thank you all for your help.... i have paid my bill and it wasn't a light bulb problem. One of my light fittings had come loose and shorted the whole circuit. All sorted now

Honestly speaking..... I have no idea. One of the lads is a spark so I gave him a call and he sorted it for me. Hes a good lad, likes getting paid in pints

Glad it's sorted.
To expand on a couple of the replies, a breaker can trip without the lever activating. They can be reset by flipping the lever off and on again.
We're in north Liverpool, and had the same thing happening. The problem was at the junction box at the top of the road, meaning the voltage coming in to the house was down to about 175 volts during peak times. The electricity board contractors came out and fixed the problem, and we're back up to 220 volts again, no wobbly lights or non-boiling kettles.
