Early British jet planes on BBC4 now

Really interesting programme called Cold War, Hot Jets.

Two parts, worth downloading from iPlayer I would say.

Thanks, I’ll enjoy this. I was really into aircraft and flying as a kid, lost interest as I grew up but now started to get the interest back in later years.

BBC4 is just the best TV channel.
Amazing documentary about the jet engine.
    Just look at TSR2.
My dad worked on that. Then it was axed.
Lots of technology from it ended up in Concorde.
Whenever I fly, the incredible power of the jet engine never ceases to amaze me.
    British ingenuity is incredible.

Wish I was at airshows back then. Vulcans going past at what looks like 30ft.

Lightnings (the originals) and Victors, the memories come flooding back.

Watching it I used to think 'where did all that money come from/go to'? Those Vulcans and Victors were beasts to maintain and the TSR was developed and scrapped. Then there were the bases to maintain and the regular flights. I was amazed when I read about B-52s flying 2 patrol patterns. One around the US and one across the Atlantic. Fully armed and fuelled they were ready to go to war 24/7 so I presume it was the same with the Vulcans unless they were on quick alert. I suppose that was the price of peace. The submarine documentary on recently highlighted that it was the sub arms race that broke the Soviet Union

Love the old jets, and it's nice to see that some are still flying

    Best Regards - Peter

I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.

Name sounds familiar, had this been on before or am I going mad?

It's on demand on sky so downloaded anyway, thanks for the tip!
