    SKX Steel

Here's a watch I finally got around to finishing.
    My own SKX171 mod.
    With:
-Drilled lugs for easy strap changing.
-6r15 handwinding and hacking movement so now with a 50+ hour power reserve.
    -Seiko Sarb crown.
-Murphy manufacturing bi-directional coin edge bezel
    -Seiko skx173 seconds hand
    -Seiko turtle srp777 dial
-Black kanji day and date wheels
-DLW 4mm high bevelled double dome AR sapphire crystal
    -Yobokies SS engraved bezel insert

I wanted the tooly look of a turtle but in a smaller package. I like the way the crystal sits a little proud of the bezel just like on a 6105. The @murphy_mfg bezel is a favourite for fit, feel and function. The sweep seconds goes better with this dial than the counterweight skx or srp seconds IMO. The metal bezel insert helps it go with just about any strap and the drilled lugs help make changing straps a joy not a chore.

    Pressure tested and regulated.

That's stunning. Did you do all the work yourself?

Nice work! How did you go about drilling the lugs? I am tempted but screwed up a practice case already.

Thank you. I used this jig I had someone make for me with a bench drill. But my more recent drilled cases (this is an older case that's been awaiting some magic for a few years and finally got used) have been done by John 'Thetigeruk'Bentley as his set up and results are consistently excellent.

I screwed up about 4 practice cases - just not worth trying to do it yourself IMO. I had work hardening problems before I understood more about temperature and dipping the drill bit etc etc. Had drill bits snap off inside a case rendering it unusable - all sorts of issues. Got there in the end but I'm no engineer - just a muddler.

    Really nice. Love that.
What’s the bracelet clasp shown there - some sort of quick adjust?

    And do you take commissions?!!

    Thank you for the compliment.

The bracelet clasp is a Titanium/Steel one from a Seiko sbbn031. It's a full ratcheting dive clasp but as I haven't been diving for over 7 years it's real world use is just to loosen up the bracelet on a hot day to let it feel more comfortable when your wrist expands - and it does work quite well in that way.
You can see it better on my Instagram account 'tunokies' as I uploaded a short video the other day.

I've recently 'retired' from doing commissioned mods but can recommend someone if you pm me.
