Billy Connolly, Christopher Hitchens & David Bowie.

Alexander Fleming and Billy the Kid.
I would like to shake the hand of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has been a tireless force for progress during the 2000s. Besides serving as governor of California for two terms, Schwarzenegger has been a vocal leader in combating climate change, in finding and funding alternative power sources, in avidly promoting health and sports, and eliminating the crippling gerrymandering that has been plaguing the U.S. for the past 20 years or more.
This billionaire (?), who contends with serious health issues as well, rejects a comfortable easy life in favor of making the world a better place. I would definitely like to shake his hand!

I would shake the hand of my great grandfather who fought and died for this country that we all live in.

Great concept for a thread, a few names have taken me to interesting Wikipedia pages.
Bringing it back down... a California local these days... "No Way" Hans Rey - my youth was spent trying to emulate his tricks with limited success. Legend.
The man who put the ram in the rama lama ding dong
These two fellows would certainly be near the top of my list:
Perhaps it might be easier to say who you would not shake hands with (who is still alive).
Gary Glitter and Jerry Adams spring immediately to mind.

I’ve had my hand well and truly shaken almost crushed by Laurence D’
He’s a big bugger to say the least, hate to think how big Martin Johnson is in real life

He bought me a pint in the late 80’s in a pub near Epping that was his local top man and chatted like we were long list mates.

I was turning my house upside down over the weekend as I can't find my copy of Carrying the Fire signed by Michael Collins. I've got quite a few of the Apollo astronaut autographs but I've got a horrible feeling this has found its way into a skip

What a shame! Signed or not, it's a magnificent book isn't it? That's the TakeTime watch in the photograph.
I was very pleased to be able to shake the hand of Jack Lousma during the summer, famously CAPCOM during the Apollo 13 mission and recipient of the "Houston, we've had a problem" message. As well as a member of the astronaut support crews for the Apollo 9, 10, and 13 missions he was the pilot for Skylab-3 and spacecraft commander on Shuttle mission STS-3, totalling 67.5 days in space. He also completed two spacewalks, with 11 hours floating outside the Skylab space station.
LOL I shook hands with him (and Sir Clive Woodwood) when they gave a motivational presentation at my old company.
He really is huge (reminded me of Herman Munster) and he handshake reflected it. Crushed!
Lawerence is about 4" shorter than Johnson, but is broader.
