A-11: The Lost Watch of D-Day..............anyone?

I've been seeing pre-order ads for the Praesidus A-11.

It comes in 38 or 42 mm sizes, and powered by a Seiko automatic movement. $195.00

    Anyone looked at these?

    I had not seen these
I have a bit of an obsession with the A11
I have a couple of originals and the Cruxible by MKII.
This whilst not a accurate representation of the A11 looks to be a nice daily wearer with the right sort aesthetics.
I am not sure I will be buying one as I have the Cruxible but if I didn’t I would likely try one. At that price it is worth a punt.

I like the look of these and love the originals. I have a Mkii Hellion which is just fantastic otherwise I’d likely try one at that price.

A bit too colourful for what it's trying to be. Also, without a logo it looks like a toy.

Looks nice enough for an historic looking military style watch. The 42mm variant strikes me as a whopper.

Probably not one for the watch geeks or members of the ‘Walt’ interest group (as I am).

Don’t doubt that this paratrooper had an A11.

    1. The A11 was a USAAF watch
    2. The hands make it look like the USN equivalent watch
    3. The white faced watch looks more like the US Army watch, an ORD rather than A11.

I think the original military spec. didn’t allow branding. The USN R88 equivalent I have has HAMILTON lightly embossed on the all black dial.

It reminds me of the 1965 military Benrus I had.

This sums it up for me.

Bulova did produce a branded version but it was not a issued watch, it was available for private purchase though. The issued watches by Bulova, Elgin and Waltham did have a logo on the dial but as you say it was printed in black so almost impossible to see unless you get the light to shine across the dial.

The one on the left is a little bit more for a better balanced watch.

The one on the left is closer to the A17 from the Korean war. Again the hands are not right though.

I would like to try the reissue A15 (the other watch) the original has to be one of the rarest WW2 watches out there.

Because all threads need pictures and I was knocking about in the watch safe.

    Original A11 on left
    Original A17 on right

An in an (unsuccessful) effort to show the back printed makers name

This is a USN R88-W-800 which is akin to the Praesidus A11 taking in to account the hands and lumed hour dots.

You can just about see Hamilton between 8 and 4.

That’s a real really nice example. I should pick one up one day. (Sooner rather than later)
