HP and Laserjet
Whatever you do don't buy an ink jet printer
You could do worse than buying something like this

Hi,
After many 'discussions' with my other half, I have been made to see the error of my ways and now I 'really do' want to buy a colour printer to help my kids with their homework.
Thought that it wouldn't be necessary as we have a grea B&W laser one, but it would appear that in this century, Schools expect pupils to be able to bring in stuff in colour.
Can I please ask if any of you have any recommendations please for a reasonably priced one that would fit the bill
Many Thanks
John

Cheap as chips and with HP instant ink well within any budget i use the instant ink programme and for £1.99 per month get 50 pages of high quality colour print with replaceable cartridges included.

After years of suffering blocked nozzles and rip-off ink prices I switched to a small home colour laser a year or so ago. We got a Samsung, and it's been quite excellent. Wish I'd done it much sooner! Sits on our Wi-Fi network and we can print to it from our PCs, phones and iPad, it was a doddle to set up. This is the one we got, dare say you can find it cheaper if you shop around:

Small colour laser or there is a Epson ink tank (eco tank) not super high resolution but cheap as you like to run vs IJ or laser.

We changed from Inkjet to HP Laserjet MFP... last year and never looked back. Great reliable 'all in one' that didn't cost a King's ransom.
We got an Epson ecotank printer a couple of months ago and it’s great. Up front cost was quite steep (about £400 if I recall) but comes with 2 years worth of ink in large bottles so hassle free.

Hp instant ink fan here for a homework printer. £1.99 a month and a new set of ink always there for when you run out. We were always making late night runs to tesco for homework printing costing a fortune. Now... £24 a year and it's always ready to go. Never clogged or jammed in 2 years either.
Watch out for the cost of consumables if you buy a colour laser. A full set of genuine cartridges can easily top the cost of the printer. Of course, the ones they supply with the printer these days generally only have a teaspoon of toner in..
Cheers,
Plug
If thinking of HP instant ink, read T&Cs and do the calculations before signing up. Was cheaper for me to go with 3rd party inks.
Always read the T&Cs when entering any contract but in my case i have the 50 pages pm for £1.99 and now print rather than draft in full colour the ink is replaced as the cartridges have their own email address and include a free post recycling bag also can email the cartridge straight from your phone if you have a pic to print.Been a user for around 4/5 years without a problem.
Easier said than done in some cases - I wonder how many read, for example, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook T&Cs.
They rely on people printing either less than 50 pages (in your example) or more and paying exorbitant rates for the excess (though I realise some can be carried forward).
My impression of HP was that they were designed to catch out the unwary. Had an initial offer of months free subscription cleverly designed to start after a certain period so the benefit was small (would have had to buy some in the interim).
If it works for you, good, but anyone with youngsters shouldn’t underestimate the number of copies printed out, binned, edited and re-printed. Was like that for us anyway!
Do not buy inkjet printers, they sell the printer so cheap to hook you in on buying the ink which is stupidly expensive, the nozzles get blocked if you don't use them often and the quality of the printing is garbage compared to a laser jet
Laserjet toner cartridges are far cheaper when you work out cost per page, why do you think all business' use laser jet and not inkjet, it's a massive con aimed at ignorant Joe public consumers who just look at the initial cost of the printer
I sell printers btw
Another HP instant ink convert here. Different price plans available and you are always assured of getting decent quality ink when you need it. No doubt a colour laser “may” work out cheaper in the long term (depending on how much you will use it, how you source the toner carts etc) but for convenience and ease of use I think HP takes some beating.

Thanks to all of those who took the time to reply. Some great advice and I think will will go with an HP on the instant ink programme
Another great set of reccomendations from the forum

I also sell printers, and kind of agree, though I'd say this primarily applies to genuine 'home' inkjets and older devices. I'd say the change in Business Inkjets in the past 5 years has been massive. Epson Workforce Pro, HP OfficeJet Pro (and PageWide) and to a lesser extent Canon Maxify will all be cheaper to run than low end colour lasers. Most of the HPs and Epsons have 3yr warranties as standard to deal with nozzles and other issues and they tend to take larger inks (1.5-4k yield is not uncommon).
If you do look at colour laser go a step or two above the entry level. The Samsung CLP-680 is an excellent printer that takes decent size toners and has a sensible running cost. https://www.printerland.co.uk/Samsun...W-P134924.aspx (though I could do you a better deal on the toners and probably the box).
