Christopher Ward Fleet Diving Unit 1 Commission

    Hi guys,

A friend of mine is a Royal Navy Diver in the elite Fleet Diving Unit 1.

    http://www.eliteukforces.info/eod/fleet-diving-unit/

The guys there had a special project commissioned with Christopher Ward as many specialist branches of the military do.

He has kindly allowed me to share these images with you.

This is peice is 1 of 50 made, I have redacted his name and service number to secure his privacy but please see the below.

I absolutely love it but please let me know what you think.....

    Best

It’s a nice memento of his service and you will not see another one in day to day life but it’s not a looker.
The nicest unit purchase I have seen is the Bremont RM 350.

Why do you want to know what we think of your mate's watch? If it was your watch I could just about understand, but a watch that's not even yours?

Anyway, I've never much liked the CW Makaira and his unit shield doesn't improve it so another 'no' from me. Sorry.

As this is a British Military Watch thread I assumed that there would be some interest in seeing a very rare Royal Navy Divers watch. Perhaps I have misunderstood what this forum is all about my mistake...

I think it looks like the unwanted lovechild of a Bell and Ross and a Kristofer Koblenz.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

I've got a standard Makaira (Which is what this is based on) and I think the crowns are the best thing about it

It's my sometimes diving watch and is very good for that with a really legible dial, so I can see why a professional diver would use this as the basis for a 'private order'.

You'll never get any love for any CW here, though

As for Onelasttime's comment, perhaps he missed it being in the BMW subforum, but if not I guess he objects to everyone posting their 'issued' watches, unless they were issued to the person posting them?

Is it actually an issued watch though? Sounds to me like it is simply a watch designed as a momento to his unit. Would be like buying a seiko 5, having your details inscribed on the back, and claiming it's a military watch.

Sorry, I'll stand down. I did indeed miss that it was in the BMW thread so it makes more sense now.

But I think Halfe's point is valid – it's not actually an issued watch, but a private commission.

It is a fair point, but obviously has some tie in which is perhaps of interest to some.

These seem on a par with the Iranian Airforce Breitlings - Unless the possibility that those were ordered by someone with a role in the Airforce makes a difference to you.

The enthusiasm for 'Issued' watches totally baffles me

If a watch has specific military provenance to an individual or event, I can see why people are interested, but just having been issued to some squaddie stacking shelves in Aldershot (or maybe just sat on those shelves in a box for years) doesn't make it interesting to me.

No 100% not an issued watch. This was a commission, I wouldn't have shared if it was any ould outfit but these guys really are a small specialist branch. Only in recent years have they had the recognition they deserve

I've dived with a number of RN divers and they've earnt my utmost respect, exceptionally fit, highly trained and great guys to be with above and below the water.

Matelot, I'm not that taken with the watch for several reasons, but if your friend is pleased with his then that's all that matters really. ;-)

He loves it shipmate, and I suppose that's all that matters. As I say, its 1 of 50, just thought I'd share is as many people will never get the chance to see one. Whilst I like it personally, I can also appreciate the criticism of others. It is a bit of marmite..

It's certainly not beautiful but is a very rare and personal memento of his service. I wouldn't buy it but I imagine that it is priceless to your mate.
