Make sure you pay a visit to Mothers cafe/ restaurant for a Po Boy.
Oh, and howl at the moon duelling piano bar if it’s still there. Had a great night in that bar, very talented musicians and real good fun.
Going to New Orleans for a holiday on Tuesday, was wondering what's worth getting whilst out there? (Clothes, electronic, anything really).
Had a look at where they might have vintage watches, but not really sure my other half would be too happy about it......

Breakfast at Brennan’s. Seriously.
Preservation hall (book now!) or Snug harbour for a bit of very good jazz.
'Against stupidity, the gods themselves struggle in vain' - Schiller.
The exchange rate is poor isn’t it?? This kind of scuppers any great deals
Used to be excellent, we used to go when it was about 1.90/1 so you where practically getting everything half price!
Electrics are pretty much a no go with the voltage change.
Levi's and most other clothes also electric guitars would be my choice.
Vintage watches can be a decent price too as there are so many of them.
Cheers,
Neil.
Oh and booze, especially So Co 100%. Available in a 1.75L bottle as well
Apple kit is always cheaper and given that they don’t discount is worth getting if you like apple stuff
Bump stocks.
The exchange rate is poor, but I found the outlet malls extremely cheap.
Wife picked up a TNF Metropolis Parka for £90, and I picked up a shell for £25.
Lots of Hilfiger stuff for the teens (apparently very ‘in’ for youngsters at the moment) at £15 a pop.
Everything else apart from branded clothes in the outlet mall I found could be bought in the UK for a similar price. iPads £30-£40 cheaper than the UK, but you take a risk with warranty,
This was Seattle outlet premium mall
Oakley sunglasses.
Levi jeans in the outlet stores. My sister visits every year and brings me a couple of pairs, generally pay around £30.
I was in New York last week and off to Washington next week - really there are no amazing deals anymore. It's pretty much what you can buy here and with the exchange rate not much of a saving.
Chlamydia? Depending on the circumstances.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Cutlery (or knives, for the collecting of) remain good value. On a recent trip to Philly I picked up a nice Case folder and a Spyderco kitchen knife. Still dollars for pounds, or better.
If relevant, do a Google for “cutlery shops near me” once you’re there.
Even though the dollar is very poor some of the deals at the premium outlet malls can still be good for clothes and shoes. Especially brands like Ralph Lauren.
Look out for vintage razors, Gillette Slim Adjustable and the like. An absolute steal over there.
Dan Henry 1939 quartz Chronograph, with the white dial

Only $220 = £170
I was there in June - breakfast at Ruby Slipper on Magazine St is really good. Good value and great atmosphere.
We didn't do much shopping but the outlet mall by the harbour was worth a look - some decent deals to be had depending on what you're after. Think its called Riverwalk or something.
Some great bars but can't recall the names right now.
Lots of Levis in popular sizes. Usually half the price compared to UK. Easy money on fleabay.
Does anyone know if the US iPhone will work in the UK? If they do that would be a great buy as they are the same price in dollars as GBP.
You do and it varies by state.
But to answer the original question - yes it will work just fine. The only issue is that the warranty will be with Apple in the USA and not in the UK. So if you have an issue with it there may be some problems getting it fixed. At least that was the case a while back. With the exchange rate being what it is there may not be enough of a saving on something like that - just check the warranty situation first.
Think you’ve got to be careful about the GSM frequencies. I believe they will work in the UK but on limited frequencies. I think US iPhones never used to support LTE band 7 which is used as a 4G frequency band for us. This was certainly the case with the iPhones a couple of years ago, maybe it has changed though.
Most of the good value shopping in the US is from outlet malls. You can still get some good bargains on labels like Levi, Ralph Lauren etc. Samsonite stores are also very good value. Best value Apple shopping is ordering through the US refurb online store and getting it store delivered.
I've bought some nice Ebel watches from there over the years. Often seen discounted in the Movado outlet stores and at a fraction of RRP for some nice pieces.
Just wait for the stuff you can't take with you: fuel!
Lots of stuff's already mentioned. A visit to a shopping mall is always worth a trip - there's always something you'll like.
3000 miles to go shopping, I think I'll pass if it's all the same with you.

Well to be fair it's not why we're going, but since I'll be there I thought it may be worth asking

A pair of red wing boots.
Don't forget to leave enough room/weight in your suitcase if you're planning on clothes shopping. Having to pay for excess baggage on the flight home could easily negate any savings made.
I’d concur with that. I was in NYC a couple of weeks ago, and DC, and given the exchange rate and weakness of sterling there really aren’t the bargains anymore.
Food is expensive for Brits now also - especially at shops.
Just enjoy your visit and there’s much more interesting stuff to do than shopping anyhow.
You can get it all online in the UK now regardless.
So clever my foot fell off.
I visit MN several times a year & always fill up with clothes from the designer outlets.
No sales tax on clothes in MN - so even with the current exchange rate there are still some good deals.
I regularly pick up Hilfiger & Ralph Lauren [work] shirts for <$20 a piece.
So cheaper then M&S here in the UK.
I also picked up a pair of RedWing chukka boots for $129 on my last trip.
I usually pick up a bourbon too - & try to get something from the smaller producers which you cannot get in the UK.
Plus [more mundanely, but possibly related] Painkillers.
You can get 1000 paracetamol / ibuprofen / aspirin for about $10-$12 in the supermarkets.
Saves all the hassle we have here buying them 8 at a time.

They have a kind of sugary donut in New Orleans called a Beignet. The place to buy them is the Café Du Monde near the cathedral.

Yes , Apple stuff bought in USA works fine in the UK .
I bought my last 4 phones in the US and they all work in UK - most recently in Aug for #2 son .
The only difference being you get a US 2 pin adapter, you will need to buy a 3 pin for UK.
Just found this in my drawer- obviously unused by me here ! Think it came with an Apple Watch MrsO gave me .
Levi Jeans are worth trying to find if they are on offer, and of course, if you actually wear them! RRP makes them generally unattractive, but you can find them on offer in some places or go to a Levi's outlet. Levi 527's are my favourites and they typically sell for about £85/pair over here.. I managed to find them on sale in Macy's for $40/pair when I was over there in June. Needless to say I grabbed several pairs!
