Time to show Bri's watch again

Just found this on my hard drive, thought I'd lost it. I think he's worn this for years.

Given that there are a number of watches that look very similar to that, and that clearly I don't have the eyes that some of you have, what is it?
So clever my foot fell off.

Interesting shot that. Where money is no object he chooses to wear what is essentially a cheap Jap Divers watch. A total lack of pretentiousness.

It shows that the man knows you don't have to pay much for a quality watch.
Now if he had such knowledge about hairdressers as well............ :D .

    Cheers,

Re: Time to show Bri's watch again

The Seiko in question is a 7548-7000 Quartz circa 1978-84

May himself gives clues on his Website in August 2005 :-
In answer to the query from Karen: "I was on your other website and there were questions about your watch, and what make it is, as everyone was saying you have been wearing the same one for 20yrs now!"

Well, not really. I wore a Japanese divers watch for many years, bought on our first trip to Tokyo, in preparation for learning to Scuba dive in Australia. But for the last couple of years I have been using, rather lazily, a very cheap but effective Swatch - it's very light, and doesn't involve me in strap stretching problems, which make the SEIKO a little tricky. However the Seiko is still my favourite."

Not sure what he means here by the "strap stretching problems" but I'm a bit of a Queen/May fan aswell as a Seiko fan. I anyone has the Queen greatest Hits Vol 2 DVD then take a look at the One Vision documentary recorded in September 1985.

There's a close up of him playing the piano which runs for about 5 secs or so. The watch is quite clear and the second hand can be seen ticking like a quartz (in one second increments). The hour and minute hands are chrome edged (rules out the 7C43-7000 which was not produced until 1986.) making it a definite 7548-7000. It also looks to be the non-SQ version which would tie in with being bought in Japan.

Despite the Swatch Brian does however revert back to the Seiko now and again as can be seen in recent concert footage etc.

I Like the group and watch that much I had to track one down and bought the same watch on SC from David (j111dja) a couple of years back. (Dave's original pics)

Absolutely , but other rock groups are avaiable so in the interest of balance here's an old shot of Mick Jagger wearing his 6309 auto diver

Given the shape of the 12 o'clock marker, the ratio of "SEIKO" to the word beneath it, I would say it is one of Seikos' quartz divers', my guess a 7548-7000.

EDIT: Seems I am a little slow in my photographic analysis...

I bow to your superior knowledge!

Tasty example you have there, got to love the supremely practical battery change indicator...

Sorry for the bump but it seems Mick has a new watch, can't quite place it though, anyone ? It looks vaguely like an X-33 ;-)

Quality thread bumping there. I have a colleague with a Suunto that looks similar to that but you're probably closer to the mark with the X33

I saw Rodney Trotter wearing a similar Seiko (pepsi) on a rubber, in an episode of Only fools yesterday ..the xmas one (eating xmas dinner scene) with Leonard Pierce.

To me, it looks closer to a Casio ProTrek PAW-1300T.

100% Pro Trek. 1300 model is possible, but a few others look like the 1300 bezel from a distance.

    Good taste .

Googled it and it seems correct, well spotted, would have loved it to be an X-33 though ;-)

    Pretty impressive bumping skills.
Now, if you'd bumped it on its 10 year anniversary I'd have given you a prize 😎
