Heads up! Paco Robanne 1million £3.99 for 50ml (not quite!)

Paco Robanne is my fragrance of choice for work and casual, and it’s quite expensive at £86 for 200ml, £60 for 100ml or £40 for 50ml.

Mrs RJM went to Lidl for some of their fantastic cheese and crackers and smelled someone trying this:-

    free image hosting

“It smells the same!” Claims Mrs RJM, as I scoff at her lack of decorum, claiming that this imposter would be anything like......

So I’ve just been and bought some, after smelling it and can confirm it DOES smell EXACTLY THE SAME!

Looks like i’ll Be chowing down on some humble pie along with the evenings cheese and biscuits!!!!!

I thought I’d share it on here in case anyone is interested!

Funnily enough, was thinking of picking up some of the Paco Rabanne today...guess I will try this Backofavan option instead!
    Cheers.

Yep, got a few of those.
Good quality, good value, doesn't go 'stale' like some, and packs away nicely for an overnighter.
Not sure this is the forum for this kind of knowlege though....it retails under £100 doesn't it?

A few years back there were quite a few pieces in the newspapers about Lidl's X-BOLT smelling almost identical to Hugo Boss. Non scientific tests (asking women the street, the newspapers, not me) seemed to agree it was good stuff.

Scandalous - my Lidl charged me the whole £3.99 today!

It was worth popping in though to buy a sourdough boule, that really is lovely

Not a conspiracy theorist or anything but I wonder if Paco Robanne made too much of their stuff? Perhaps not wishing to dilute their brand image by having it sold off cheaply at TK Maxx and other discount outlets, they've sold it for a nominal sum to a cheap fragrance manufacturer or distributor, rather than pour it down the drain - thereby avoiding the opprobrium visited upon Burberry when they torched £28m worth of high end clothing.

The production cost is so near to zero on aftershave in the volumes they make it at, they'd just pour it down the drain even if they ended up in the unlikely situation at the chemical plant of making too much. As I understand it, with the higher end stuff, the bottle is a higher production cost than the stuff in it...

Why would any cheap producer even need to buy it off Paco Robanne ? Copying a scent is not complex and you bring down the cost further by simply adding more synthetic ingredients.

    Merry new year!!!!!!

    Why spoil a decent conspiracy?!?!??

I’ve got visions of clandestine meetings at a motorway service stations with people exchanging a brown envelope full of euro’s for a LHD tanker filled with Paco Robanne instead of fuel, like the scene in Trading Places with the orange crop report....

Private labels will brief a fragrance house to match or benchmark against a known brand or worse still reverse engineer the formula (there is a gentleman’s agreement in place within the industry not to do this but...).

The bulk of a fragrance is “commodity” fragrance ingredients, the money comes in the shape of captive materials that will only be available internally within the fragrance house or to certain clients. If Aldi use the same house they may get access to the captive but it’s unlikely as they tend to be more exclusive and expensive. Even captives are variations on an olfactive theme so you can recreate the special sauce through other materials and no one but a nose will know the difference.

As for cost you’re generally correct but it’s not so cut and dried. Captives or certain naturals can be significantly more expensive but their use is obviously not as high. Certain qualities of naturals can vary 100-fold in their cost differential between normal and specific source for example.

    Oops.

Looks like my blockade of the local shop was ill-advised.

I parked my car outside and made a flag claiming my £2 back but now I feel like a fool.

It didn’t help that I parked outside Aldi.....

Thats nothing I stepped over a queue of dark web traders , who had besieged the cosmetics counter only to find my three quid didnt cut it and I had to break into a fiver. It was only the addition of two of their finest croissants that softened the blow, plus change from said fiver!

Bought the X bolt and yep its the same as Boss (to my nostrils)

I'm feeling a bit weird about it though, like I am a fake person flaunting/passing my aftershave off as a much more expensive product, am I a dishonest person? can I be trusted? How much crime am I funding buying x bolt?

Hate to be a doubter but are all you guys buying dodgy smellies from the old street traders as I always thought it was Paco Rabanne.

It’s fine as long as you say it’s a “homage” and don’t wear it to a perfume shop...
