Yup, not bad. Could do without the unnecessary romance!

Ok if you don’t think about it too much.

Close protection officer leaving vehicle and subject to pursue gunman alone ?

    It's quite good.
No point being picky about dramas, if it was realistic no-one would watch it

  7. #7
I just get the feeling it’s gonna be another one of those dramas that is six episodes long but should have been four. The BBC seem to drag things out to fill air time these days, it’s the same with Keeping Faith.

I though it pretty good depiction of just how many agencies etc all treading on each other must be like.

Do these fine upstanding cabinet members really have this level of protection?

He didn't leave her alone, he left her with the team from the Range Rover, but it was a bit odd that he went into the building alone, I'd agree.

However, that was required for dramatic effect - He couldn't have had the chat with his shooter mate if another police officer was there.

It's TV drama, not a documentary.

Surely the backup vehicle should have shielded the subjects car when the sniper opened fire. For some reason they just parked behind and sat watching...

oh, and how did the sniper know the route that the subject would be taking that day?

All a bit hit and miss but quite exciting all the same

That will be revealed in a forthcoming episode.

I think he ("Sergeant David Budd") sounds as wooden as a piece of 4 x 2 and looks like a Thunderbirds puppet. I think I am just about keeping up with the plot!

Really enjoying it, yes you have to take it with a pinch of salt however that's the same with all dramas. Spooks and the like were/are exactly the same.

The stand out question for me though - is he using any protection?

Most works of fiction require you to suspend common sense especially when you know it’s starting
to get a wee bit far fetched

  29. #29
I’m not convinced by it yet. It’s quite slow to progress, somewhat predictable and overall I’m not getting excited about the next episode. To be honest I’ve been picking it up on iPlayer as I’ve been elsewhere and enjoying Vanity Fair on the other side more, and I think I’ll give it one more episode before I save my bandwidth.

There's a discussion on Facebook between two guys who have been protection officers and they're much less than impressed.

Why? Didn't they get to shag the Home Secretary? I wonder who the character of Juliua Montague is based on? Jacqui Smith, Theresa May or Amber Rudd?

    Indeed...

I can't imagine a day in the life of a Protection Officer would really be very exciting viewing.

Look around, give the all clear, get in the car, drive somewhere, get out of the car, look around, give the all clear...

I'm sure it's a stressful job with lots to do, but few jobs actually make entertaining TV (I know mine isn't entertaining at all!) and, except for a few 'fly on the wall' documentaries (always edited down to the exciting/interesting bits and very often spiced with false jeopardy) few of us would bother watching such things.

A bit of conspiracy theory, drama with snipers in central London and bombs going off by leading Politicians, makes for entertaining TV.

Maybe BBC just trying to push their agenda by portraying mentally ill war veterans as bigger threat to UK than Islamic extremism.

I’m quite enjoying it as another silly Sunday night drama with no basis in reality - it’s a bit silly really isn’t it?
As to ‘the next James Bond’ - we’ll, I can’t say I’m blown away by his acting skills, and even with his ‘ballistic vest’ on he still looks so slender and delicate I’m sure my 15 year old son could take him in a punch- up!

There’s a tea shop / cafe in a village on the Sandringham estate that seems to have a couple of all black Range Rover permanently parked there.
