Posting high-ish value item to Europe (again).

Whilst I'm an occasional seller on the forum I have no experience of sending high value items overseas, I'm in the process of selling an item to a forum member in Europe that I want to send tracked and insured, the issue I have is who to use, and what cover they provide, the watch is around £1200, can I send it via the Post office for example? And will they insure it, or should I use a courier like Fedex and if so do they insure or should I use a third party insurer?

Forgive me for the wearisome subject, I have searched the forum but things seem to be in constant flux and what worked a year ago isn't always the case today, ideally someone say I use X they insure and track, or I use Y for the parcel, they track it but its insured with Z.

Sending stuff to far flung corners of the globe isn't the issue its the tracking and insurance that's giving me gyp.

    Thanks in advance..

I find UPS tracking to be excellent. Royal Mail tracking can be hit or miss.

Never had a problem with RM International Tracked and Signed for - low insurance cover, but go for it. I have sent several items overseas and all have been good.

Only ever used this option, and never had a problem either.
Tracked AND Signed For certainly gives me reassurance.

Low insurance cover,,can you explain in a little more detail, does that mean not covered to the value of say £1200?

I've previously sent and recently had quotes from Royal Mail Post Office for sending watches up to £2500 to Europe insured for the full value, tracked and proof of delivery for between £60 - £90.
Unless something has changed this should still be available.

Edited to add, if you want certaintly put the watch in the box you will be posting it in and take it to a main post office for them to weigh and give you a proper quote.

UPS charge 1% of the value on top of the shipping fee. Alternatively, get a cheap flight and deliver it yourself, probably cheaper than courier shipping.
