Agreed!
Polished off the horror one earlier, a fitting end to a very good series, but I like Kermode anyway (apart from anything he rates Tarantino as just re-working old ideas and plots, which I fully agree with).
I have been thoroughly entertained by this series which has just finished on BBC4. Now on the iplayer it's really worth watching if you enjoy films. He takes a film genre each week and breaks it down in terms of key elements, score, editing, character development, lighting etc. The sci-fi, heist and, (as expected), horror genres have been brilliant but even the rom-com and coming of age episodes have been excellent. Even if you find Kermode somewhat pretentious, give it a go, as his knowledge really adds to the subject matter in this series.
This and Mortimer and Whitehouse; Gone Fishing have been excellent TV.

I'm off down the pub with Mark Kermode next month. :D
I watched and thoroughly enjoyed the Sci-fi episode. I think I’ll watch the first ones before indulging myself with the horror episode.
A friend of mine styles Kermodes quiff at his salon in Falmouth.
Couldn’t agree more, he comes across as a proper film buff and i don’t find him the least bit patronising. His love and interest come through brilliantly, a superb series.
I'm on the fence with his presentation style, but I did really enjoy the series, although it felt a little hurried at times.

Breitling Cosmonaute 809 - What's not to like?
You can't fault Mark Kermode's knowledge and enthusiasm, but I feel his appreciation of film is on a whole different level to mine.
Excellent TV. Really enjoyed the SciFi and Horror ones, will have to go back and watch the others now too.
Excellent series.
Only watched to romcom and heist so far.
Rest are on the pvr
The Story of film- an odyssey by Mark Cousins is worth a watch too.
I listen to his radio film reviews (with Simon Mayo) on podcasts, but was not aware that this was on.
Thanks for the heads up.
He started to name drop a bit in the last one but was a great series.

I watched all of them on iplayer yesterday
Very good - have added a few films to my 'must see' list as a result
I like his presentation and hair style
His co-writer - Kim Newman - has an equally encyclopaedic knowledge. Especially of the horror genre. Very enjoyable.
