Just curious. This large(24mm) Panerai type strap has what seems to be a buttonhole on the strap holder.
I'm probably the only one who doesn't know what it's for.

Not sure about the example above (if it`s authentic or not) but the `buttonhole`is a remnant from the Mauser ammo pouch straps made by the likes of Vintager.
And very distinctive they are too..

The hole is cut using what’s often called a Pippin punch.
