    What watch for Goodwood Revival?

I don’t have anything vintage at the moment after selling my Heuer 510.511, so what could I get away with?

I’m going 50’s/60’s with blue check jacket and waistcoat, mole skins, brogues

I’ve a silver fob watch and a gold hunter, both need work though.

GMT Pepsi? Everything else I have is modern, after 2005, and mostly divers.

Or is this a genuine reason to buy something suitable?

Nobody will know or care what you wear. I would say a GMT Pepsi would be ideal. I used to go every year but not for the last two; it was always an excuse to wear my Ed White Speedmaster.

JLC Reverso; not a Rolex later than the 6os. Should complement what you are wearing. A pocket watch would be perfect.
For the Festival of Speed I wore a Daytona. Not that anyone cared.....

    What watch for Goodwood Revival?

A nice Smith’s of the era? Maybe a lovely tan strap?

Treat yourself to a Longines Big Eye. Slightly out of period, bit looks the business!

More elegant than my unruly apostrophe.

So many elegant watches from that era, for not much money depending on your preference.

Glorious watch. I would completely trust the opinion of anyone who wore this.

I've got a couple that would fit the bill....
    This from 1968...

    And this from 1953...

Not been to the Revival, but have 'done' the Festival of Speed a few times, marshalling on the rally stage once.

The period reflected is the 40s to 6os; I can't think of any watches still in production which span this period apart from the Reverso; any others come to mind?

From memory the track was open from 1948-1966, although there are always a load of modern Morgans in the pre-'66 car park so if they don't care I wouldn't. I just wear whatever's right for the weather, something 1960s if it's sunny and something new and water resistant if it's raining. And when it rains it usually hammers it down!

I wore this when I went

Now I have a Smiths 29-B if I went again I would wear that, even if it’s not exactly the correct year it would fit in.

The Patek Calatrava would fit the bill nicely, at a price.....been around since the 1930s. Or an early Datejust/Daydate would work well.

Longines Heritage 1945 would be perfect, I think.

Beautiful watch and a relative bargain...

For an appropriate Fundraiser donation I could lend you my HS9 for the event, if we pay RMSD one direction each.

I can even put it on an appropriately period Bonklip for you. Or Open-ended leather, NATO, whatever.

Was just about to post this. Sodding difficult things to get hold of for some reason.

Vintage Omega, Longines, Tissot or similar.

A lesser known brand will cost you a couple of hundred.

My vote is also with the Longines Heritage 1954..

Beautiful watch and my favourite in their lineup alongside the Legend Diver!

While very nice neither of these watches look like anything that were about in the 1950's or early 1960's....they look far too modern

    Mike,

L.M. is now Duke of Richmond ...

And vintage IWC would go down well as they are very present at Goodwood
Great events, in particular the Revival (IMHO)

Any Speedy Pro would fit the bill I reckon, preferably on a rallye strap. Better if it's an early one, naturally. It was always related to timing of fast things, before it ever went into space. It's also changed little since it was born in the late 50s.

I went last year, had a fantastic time. I am sad to say I can't remember what watch I wore!

You will need a set of white overalls, preferably with some old motor-related logos. And a cravat. And wellies if it's muddy.

    You're correct. Sort of. It's a 1945 design.

But very updated in appearance, size and case finish being the more obvious......
And Goodwood Revival is all about 'appearance'......
