Edit. BBC have updated the story to say “It crashed on the south of Ketron Island, near a military facility”.

Well, if they did shoot it down it was the right thing to do. One never knows what a suicidal nutter is going to do next...
The pilot was talking on the radio to air traffic control during the flight, towards the end of the flight he was telling them that he was running out of fuel.
It seems the whole thing was very tragic and handled well by the authorities in the US I’d say. Shame he didn’t direct his enthusiasm and talents in a more positive direction.
