About a year ago the ethernet card MAC address of my aging DELL PC changed. I had just installed Virtual Box so I thought that might have caused it and didn't investigate further. Now it's suddenly changed back to the old value. Can anyone suggest why that might have happened?

I usually RDP into the PC having woken it from my linux laptop. The first time it changed I couldn't get wakeOnLan to work, got the new MAC from the router and created a new wakeOnLan record which then worked. This time the same happened, I tried the old wakeOnLan record and it worked, confirming that the old MAC had reappeared.
