Article on Grand Seiko design by the designer of the Snowflake

I really enjoyed this, especially as I owned the watch on the first page and now have the one on the second page, I can appreciate all the details which only reveal themselves through ownership.

And many many other GS models, like all the diver’s for example. A great guy and very good at explaining, had a sit down with Mr Kubo where he explained the design choices for the GS hi-beat diver.

Having owned a Grand Seiko I can well believe this deliberate and exacting attention to detail. I don’t expect other designers at the price point pay so much attention to the most minute details. I now want another one...

Did you! Nice. I tried one on in the boutique in London, very thick but a great design, particularly to the lugs and a fantastic dial.

The thickness is definitely the issue with GS, I don’t see the reason for it really.

Back to the linked article in the OP, very interesting. But does anyone else get a tad uneasy at the thought of the design reigns being handed to the sort of people that think one jacket cuff buttonhole picked out in bright stitching is a good thing? I don’t go to GS for “quirky”, there’s plenty of that to go round already.

A good, quick, informative read. Thank you!

A bit more on Mr Kubo here: http://watchesbysjx.com/2018/05/gran...-sbgh255g.html

I believe he also penned the SBGV247, which in the metal looks quite superb.

Thanks for posting. It should go without saying given the precise design of Grand Seiko's but it was illuminating the care that goes into it.

Thanks OP, that was a very interesting little read. Grand Seiko take their matchmaking very seriously but still with a sense of joy and wonder. They are rapidly becoming one of my favourites and once the coffers are replenished I expect to be adding another.

That's a good read!! Not helping with the "I'm not buying any more watches " mantra...
