You're preaching to the converted, Kerry - my bike is unlike any other, and most of the mods are mine. That said, customising isn't for everyone, and what you find dull as dishwater may well float someone else's boat.

Tony indeed, I have a 2019 Honda Monkey. I follow a very active Facebook page which abounds with customisers . Some spend up-to £15k on their bikes. Always remembering these bikes cost £3k new!!!

So bling to original buying price is off the clock, and lastly apparently insurance is a problem for them!

So do any of those on here customising their bikes inform their insurers? Be interested to know their reactions/charges.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Mine (Aviva) were pretty disinterested. They just told me to make sure I allowed for the additional costs in the sum insured and noted that there were a number of cosmetic changes on their records. They’re didn’t even want to know about the details of the replacement end can.

Ok, so I am now thinking of using my phone with Waze as a sat nav. I am wondering if anyone else does this and in particular how you have mounted it. I wont use one of those X grip type things as they look awful. I have looked at Quad Lock and SP Connect as options. I would like the phone to be central, ie sort of in line with the dash as opposed to near the switchgear. Any suggestions, pics, info of fitting most appreciated.

I use the Quad Lock exactly as you describe, Stuart. It’s the standard motorbike handlebar kit and I’ll take a photo next time I uncover the bike.

It’s a superb set up and I’ve never had a problem with it.

I did indeed. No problem fitting it.

Added bonus is that the car kit is really good too.

Of course I’ve declared my mods on the Bobber to MCE... made little difference. Policy price fully comp with 7k mile limit £160 quid👍

Did you get it to fit dead central over that silver bar clamp thingy that holds the bars on or does it position the phone slightly off centre if you get what I mean, if you have a pic of that most appreciated Tony.

Thanks guys was wondering how mods like we see here would affect premiums etc.

In my past experience it depends on the insurer. They all seem to look at different mods differently. Some will increase premiums for say an end can that increases performance, and others dont. I think the general rule of thumb would be to declare any mods, this way they dont have a cheap ‘get out’ clause in case of a dreaded accident. Seems pointless spending a load of dosh for it not to be covered. My current ride was an ex demo so has loads of ‘extras’ on it, and if I send it into a wall I want it covered so they are all listed. One thing is for sure, I’ve never had a premium reduce by any mods or extras, unless they were security related.

I’ll see if I can find one but from memory the bracket needed to go slightly to one side in order for the phone to sit centrally once attached.

Did a bit more of the TET today, good to get out and get some mud action.

Looking back at the bikes in this thread, I just don't know how you keep them so clean and showroom ready!

Rest assured that not all bikes are pristine. This is mine, after a couple of hours of country roads this afternoon.

I expect I'll clean it tomorrow morning. Again.

bTW, what`s the idea of that big moulding around the engine on your bike?

Lovely part of the country; Llyn Brianne was so calm, the reflections of the forest in the water a bit further around were amazing.

That is the fuel tank on the 790. The lower centre of gravity makes the bike feel really nimble for the size of it.

Yes, I removed those to save getting scratched up too much, shame about the rest of the bike!

After a bit of a hose down and muc-off they scrubbed up quite well. The 1090 is my commute bike now, changed the tyres from knobblies to road and it has transformed the ride no end, smooth and quiet now.

Bloody hell Enoch, your bike looks like you’ve been following a muck spreader. I looked out at 9 ish as my mate Phil (you met him at Bala) and I were planning to go out. The roads round here were very damp and greasy looking so we binned the idea. I really REALLY want to get out but I simply dont enjoy wet roads.

Hope you and your mates had a good ride, and I’m sure we’ll catch up in the next couple of months once the roads clear up a bit.

Bit of a cold day in N. Wales ( not far from Enoch) but rewarded by this sunset

  33. #3683
Last ride of 2019 was to Imber on Salisbury Plain.
It`s only open to the public a few days per year, quite an eerie place - and so is the Plain once your out in the middle of it..

Went out on Sunday round the tiny muddy lanes of Gloucestershire on the R1200R so spent all of yesterday cleaning it.

Went out today round the even muddier lanes of Gloucestershire this morning so spent this afternoon cleaning it.

I don't think I'll take it out tomorrow.

    No, just washed occasionally.

I'm from the days when motorbikes could be ridden all year, and if washed regularly would come up sparkling. I'm still of the opinion that I shouldn't have to spend lots of time and money with lotions and potions because the manufacturer has skimped on quality.

Hi Tony , in the spirit of using 100% of the bikes power all of the time, they are a hoot. I wring its neck most of the time, away from the lights it can stay / beat most traffic, but once in the 50/60 mph prepared to be mullered by every other road user.

Handling is sublime , despite the dinky tyres as its barely 100kgs so the phrase “throwing it around” is very accurate. At the end of the day its a hobby/ toy/ indulgence. As part of a four bike stable I use it like we would a watch, if I want fun I use the monkey. Big miles motorway speed BMW F700GS, high days and sunny days , one of my classic 250 cc two strokes come out.

Lastly I guess its a bit like your R9t its a conversation piece at the cafe stops, which in my world is part of the whole biking scene.

I never had a rusty bike before all those products were invented. And yes, I used to ride all year round on German airheads and Japanese.
I am not criticising those who do, I might even join them when the next bike comes (never say never is wiser) but I still would buy Gyp a beer

Get some Titanium headers and forget cleaning downpipes again.

I don't get the people who wash their bike after ever ride or "never ridden the the wet". I would love to buy a bike off a person like that but I am definitely not a person like that. Once or twice a year is enough for me!
