Which headlights are the best for a motorcycle: halogen, HID (Xenon), or LED? For now, start to read an interesting article about it for getting more clue. Click here

Lovely bike though, I must try a bmw boxer at some stage!

No tears were shed when the ST was handed over, and the deal was pretty sweet from my point of view. The custom brown seat was sadly given to a customer before I went in last week; they did think they could get hold of it but when that proved not to be the case I asked for (and got) a brown Scrambler seat as a sweetener. I may well chop and change because it’s a pretty simple operation (and yes, there’s protection on the engine blocks).

First thoughts after being on the road for much of today? It’s not as precise as the ST and it takes more work to ride it; however, I love that and love the bike’s character and stupid amounts of torque. Sounds incredible and people stop in the street to look as it goes past. I think I’ve found my bike.
I took my r nine t out for a ride today and got chatting to two other members of the r nine t brotherhood.

They're great bikes and that boxer is just so characterful

They aren't the fastest which I really like, you can have fun and enjoy the ride without winding it right up to the red line the whole time

Going Sunday. Those boxer engines have become very popular in the last five years for modders.

I think that must have been the KR1-S as I too remember them but post TZR era so late 80s ? I had "moved on" to FZRs etc although we did once consider going back to tuned 2 strokes and having a mini GP each weekend instead of the higher speed 4 stroke antics !

No, it was definitely the KR250; the KR1/KR1S came later as you say.

Reading the article however, it was Huddersfield Kawasaki that imported them and that was my nearest Kawasaki dealership so I saw quite a few of them. That’s probably why I thought they were an official import.

Interesting though, that the discussion stemmed from my comment about Jap bikes with longitudinal cranks and the KR250 actually had twin transverse cranks.

Tony Im not a fan of the green metallic custom R9t I saw in my local Mottorad dealer last week , but that colour scheme of yours is just right. The R9t has all the hallmarks of a future classic and being a one off paint-job further cements that position.

Enjoy it Im more jealous than a jealous thing!

Had an interesting day yesterday - nipped over to the Bike Shed quite early in the day with Ian, and then we rode across town to the Ace Cafe. Heavy traffic but the 9T handled it well with lots of filtering and some rapid nipping in and out of, and around the endless lines of cars. I did feel it a bit by the time I got home, although some of that will just be the inevitable tension of a first central London ride on a new bike.

Another quick phone shot from the end of the day...

Going to take Bea for a ride later today

The bottom end flexibility of big twins makes them great for rapid nipping in and out :-)

Got up at stupid o'clock yesterday and took the Triumph out for 80 miles of glorious sunshine and the little roads of Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.

Mostly gentle pottering enjoying watching the world go by, except when I tried to keep up with this 1935 Bugatti type 13 being driven in a spirited manner.

(Found this picture of it online)

I suspect it was on its way to Prescott and was warming the tyres on the way...

Tony Boxer twins carry their weight low down. As compared to your Speed Triple where the engine was quite high in the frame. Whilst the all up weight may be similar the R9t will need more effort for changes of direction and filtering. Also I think you are right, new bike, more aware of everything and probably more tense.

Think of the money you will save on going to the gym.

    Enjoy

I believe it's actually the opposite: the further away from the rotational axis (the tyre/road interface) the weight is, the greater the torque required to rotate it (moment of inertia).

I think the bike takes more effort to ride, whether or not it’s the consequence of the flat twin design. That said, comparing it to a Street Triple is probably a tad unfair!

    Evotech Tail Tidy now fitted.

Toying with whether to go for a smaller number plate too. Would certainly look better, but don’t want the hassle of being stopped for being illegal.

I don’t think the layout of the cylinders has anything to do with it.

I took the new R1250R out whilst my R9T was in for its MOT and the new bike felt lighter and more agile, despite the similar weight and engine configuration.

Much better, but get a 7x5” plate on it. I’ve had conversations with the police about mine after it was knocked off by some pillock behind me and even then they didn’t bat an eyelid.

The layout of the flat twin gives it a very low c of g.
As such they turn with less effort. The layout of the cylinders has a fair bit to do with it.

Agree about r1250r vs the r9t.
The r1250r is light years ahead...the r9t is almost agricultural by comparison.

Popped down the Brighton on mine today and stopped off at the local Mini garage to try and tempt myself to a JCW.

Agreed and I think I wasn’t making myself clear - I meant between the two bikes (R1250R and R9T) the layout has nothing to do with it as it’s the same. Interestingly though they handle differently with the newer bike being loads more agile.

I’d like both in my garage but if I had to pick one it would be the R9T, which is probably why I resisted the decent offer to chop it in for a R1250R in motorsport colours.

There is an R9t in my local dealers with a folding black and white rear plate. That must be illegal on a number of levels!

I had a couple of decent helmets already, but I've just treated myself to the Arai Freeway Classic open face... I LOVE it, especially when paired with the Ethen Cafe Racer goggles!
