Dear god, if I ever buy a bike that’s “designed for commuting” just put a pillow on my head.

Speed triple is a pretty general bike. It's designed for whatever you want. That would include commuting.

R1200 GSA is pretty good at commuting. Sometimes people have one bike and it needs to tick a few boxes.

Most bikes are pretty good at commuting, to be fair. Including the Speed Triple, although it is heavy and the turning circle is terrible (for some reason the lock stops were really restrictive).
I don’t commute on the bike any more, but I used to ride into central London every day, and while any bike will do it, my preference was for something really light and flickable to deal with all the traffic (80% of my commute was filtering).

When I think of a bike ‘designed for commuting’ however, my mind turns to the likes of the Deauville and the CG125. Both excellent bikes, but not my idea of motorcycling nirvana.

unless you are doing u -turns all day the turning circle on a speed triple is fine , that said although its more upright the seating position does put some weight on your shoulders when riding long periods at slow speeds and i would not like to be on mine all day every day at slow speeds in traffic for that reason (would prob buy an mt07 or something similar if i was doing that all the time).

Speed Triple turning ability doesn't look that bad!

Yep, the Street is a great mix. I did consider getting one for a while, but knew I’d miss the Speed’s engine (best engine ever made, IMO)

I get the point, btw. The Speed Triple is a perfectly capable bike, and very talented people can do very impressive things with it.
It’s also the bike I miss most of all the ones that have come and gone. But as a commuter it’s not perfect.

I wonder if the ktm 890 is a good mix of the speed and street triple

I think the last shape F800 GS would be a great commuting bike. The handle bars on any GS are like a bicycle and it's light enough too. The R1200 GSA isn't bad at all but with half the weight gone, like one the 800 model, it would be transformed.

Decided to flip the bar end mirrors upside down today and had a quick blast up the road to Lewes to make sure they still work. They sort of do lol.

I’m sure Anne of Cleves would have been thrilled to have had a ride.

That's lovely! How did you find the mirrors, as when I tried that I couldn't really get enough of field fo view to be comfortable with it?

They still work surprisingly well for stuff behind me but it has created the mother of all blind spots laterally...lifesaver turns are even more important.

Still if I’’d wanted a sensible bike I’’d still have an NC750X

I’m having a Coronavirus isolation garage tidy up and reorg...

My mates coming to collect the kwaka that I’ve been storing for the last 15 years... which makes room for another bike😈😈

I agree (although sales levels suggest we are in a minority). I'm really enjoying the bike. It's great for bimbling around the lanes but also offers plenty of power when desired. The gearbox is excellent too.

We probably are. But it has that 'look' reminiscent of when Z1s, 750 4s and GS1000s etc etc prowled the streets! Can't say I'm a fan of the 'utilitarian' look of some bikes these days. No point getting your bike boots and white socks out if it looks like the offspring of a pond pump and a generator!

I was out with my lad too this afternoon.

He’s got a GSXR750 too, but an older one than your lads. His is a K8, same as my track bike - he went over the 30,000 mile mark today. Great bikes - I’ve had my K8 since 2009 - it’s my 3rd 750 and has been track only for about 6 years. It’s not way near as quick as my S1000RR, but with trick suspension and forged ally wheels it handles beautifully.

Got out today up to Helmsley and back, 240 miles meaning my bike is run in, time to call Williams BMW to book the first service. Great day, spotted at least 5 police speed traps though, they must realise bikers are going to get out as much as we can until total lockdown

I've been looking at adding a K1600GT SE to the fleet.

Have been offered a beautiful one-owner bike at a real bargain price but, try as I might, I just can't bring myself to buy it.

Right bike, great price, very bad timing. Shame

No... it’s a ZXR750J1 from 1992.....my mate’s owned it from almost new, and it has 24k miles on the clock..

I’m trying to persuade him to restore it to stock looking, but he’s thinking track day warrior..

Took a few shots whilst out bimbling, to show the fork protectors and headlight grill. Love the grill and quite like the fork protectors, although it remains to be seen how well they stand up to use...

You guys getting out on your bikes in the U.K. are in for a real shock if the mainland Europe experience is anything to go by. Simply going for a ride, regardless of how harmless and self-isolating that may seem, would see some serious questions being asked by the Gendarmerie, fines levied and, in some, instances bikes confiscated.

Why would we be in for a shock??

If a full lockdown comes, I suspect that 100% of the folk on this thread will comply...... so your comments are pretty stupid really..
