Well, I've re-thought this given that it's between 5 and 6 hours each way; with my colitis symptoms making that high risk I've decided to go with another destination that's a bit closer.

In fact, I've been thinking of taking the bike down to Lymington for a while now so I can spend a day or two enjoying riding through the New Forest (as well as taking advantage of Lymington itself) It's a 3 hour journey, which seems a bit more doable, and I'm now fully booked here for the last weekend in April. I can cancel at no cost up to the day before departure too, which means if I'm having any kind of flare-up I just won't go (although I'm hoping that's not going to be an issue, of course).

Just to add, I'll be at the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum on the morning of Saturday 29th, so if anyone fancies meeting there and then going for a ride through the New Forest let me know by PM.

Quick question for the guys in North Wales...

Looking forward to hooking up in late April. However...

If you were choosing just on the basis of squeezing as much as possible from the experience, would you stay in Bala town centre or Barmouth, overlooking the sea (yes, different, but assume I like both city and coastal experiences equally)?

I currently have both options booked but can cancel either of them.

It depends on what you want to do. Barmouth is nice, but there are far better roads around Bala. I can take you on a lovely run over to Blaenau Ffestiniog, down to Betws y coed, over to LLanberis or we can do cerrigidion and down to Ruthin where there is a great biker cafe that serves actual good food, from there onto Abergele, down to Llanwrst etc etc.

You can pick n mix you can ride pretty much all day on fantastic roads, or you can chill and just do a a few miles. It’s entirely up to you how much or how little you want to ride, but we can quite easily do 200 miles if we make a decent start, and you’ll still be home in time for tea..

I think you’ve answered my question - I’ll stick with the hotel in Bala. As for mileage, 200 should be doable assuming I continue to make steady progress with the biologics treatment (and if it isn’t, I won’t get there anyway). In other words, sounds like a plan :)

Something like this should make for a nice run out, but bits can easily be missed out if it’s too much. Google Earth it to see some of the locations and scenery..

You got to do the A470 from Blaenau to Betwys Andy. Got to be one of the best stretches of tarmac in that vicinity. Love that run, either up or down.

Brilliant routes Andy especially the Traws / Llanberis route.

More twisty than a twisty thing and great views of Snowdon.

I think that’ll give everyone a decent ride out. Of course we can easily miss bits out or add other bits in. But I’m trying to remain conscious, that some of the riders will not be familiar with some of the more challenging routes and some of the hazards they present. It’d rather play it safe and hopefully the visitors will enjoy it, enough that they’ll want to return.👍😎

I’ve seen some horrendous driving and riding over the evo. The route now has average speed cameras, which has put a stop to the weekend warriors, but the speed limit is still 60 which in reality is plenty fast enough to get caught out on some of the curves if you don’t know the road. I much prefer to cruise over there and take in the scenery.

FWIW, I had an Airhawk but didn't get on with it at all so it got relegated to the 'bike stuff' pile in the garage.

Then one day a biker pal noticed it and when I said I didn't find it worked he said that was probably because I'd had it inflated too high. So I got it back onto the bike, followed his advice (just enough air into it that it created a small gap inside) and hey presto it was soooo much better. And even better than the sheepskin I was using at the time.

Anyone here have experience of Goldtop leather jackets? They seem like good quality jackets with good protection ratings. I’m in the market for a new jacket and have just discovered the brand.

Thanks for that. Test ride impacted somewhat by rain, but I’d already done enough miles on it to know that the T120 would be perfect for me if I have to give up the Harley. It feels SO much lighter, and rides like a dream… a sublime bike that would give me a 200lb weight saving. Furthermore, I struggled manoeuvring the Harley where I wouldn’t have done before so a swap if things are no better in two or three months is very much on the cards.

I had a long chat with the Head of Sales there for both Harley and Triumph, who I’ve known for about five years from when Triumph North London had the franchise through the Palmers group (in fact he’s the son of the guy that owns Palmers). I’ve already bought three new bikes from him either in Hemel or Watford too. He was really empathetic having experienced a similar situation himself - he was hospitalised for five months and could barely move by the time he was discharged. Anyway, he said that - it it comes to it - he’ll make sure I’m “properly looked after” given my circumstances.

Where have you been since 1951 :)

They have always been around and trade heavily on classic fit.

These are going to make a difference, there was a 4 month wait for these to come back into stock. The bike is coming together nicely now. I think front and rear suspension will be next.

    Front and rear indicators?

I spent £1000 on suspension on a £3500 bike, best performance upgrade I have ever done. Within a mile I thought they had bled my brakes, as the bike just stopped flat, no fork dive. The tracking through long sweeping bends was on another level. Over on the GS forum an ex plod rider recons correctly set up suspension is worth an extra 15 bhp!
