Ambulance service was a disgrace…. Chap that I hit called them, then my mate arrived on the scene and called them explaining severe haemophilia bleeding into the knee and going into shock…. This was 5pm

Response was we might be able to get to you in 4 hours….. I called and literally begged them to come, I knew I was in trouble and that my leg was clearly broken… I can’t even describe the pain…

Same response, my mate then rang my wife and she came with the jeep, 2 cops turned up and between them they got me laid down in the boot area… jeez it was so painful, luckily at the hospital they gave me gas an air to extricate me from the jeep.. it helped but not much..

If my mate hadn’t called the wife, I think there was a distinct possibility that I would have died before the ambulance arrived..

That is a shocking tale !

Pal of mine had a similar incident 10 months ago - broken shoulder, broken pelvis, all ribs broken, one punctured lung, lobes broken from lower vertibrae................... Luckily- back at work now.

That was 8 years after he broke his neck (a few milimetres shy of total paralysis) !!!!

    Now given up biking.

Hope you make a speedy recovery!

Sorry to hear that Enoch, but head you survived to tell the tale.

Don’t be too hard on the ambulance service though, they do the best they can in an impossible situation.

Wishing you a speedy recovery; the Diavel will be there waiting for you!

  6. #12106
Sorry to hear that Enoch. Just when things were looking up after your spate of problems. You're clearly made of tough stuff. Unfortunately the ambulance sercice is understaffed and overworked. People tend to take the NHS for granted and not appreciate how fortunate and lucky they are that it even exists.
Looking forward to seeing pics of fry ups and bikes when you recover.
    All the best mate

Never great to hear this as a biker, but it is bloody dangerous and exciting in equal measure. Guess you can’t have one without the other unfortunately.

Best wishes to you Enoch and pleased to know long term you will get back in the saddle.

Bloody hell, Andrew, what an absolute bummer. Awful.

I wish you the speediest recovery possible in the circumstances, but do give everything the time it needs. Your new bike will no doubt be waiting for you.

Good luck with the bionic leg Enoch, very sorry to read this. You’re quite right that that was a serious situation with the haemophilia and I’m glad you’re still with us.

None of this sympathy Enoch, what you need is someone local and a riding leg end , to collect your Diaval on Tuesday , get bestowed with new riding gear and champagne then gently then progressively pile some miles on it. A minimum of two shitty rides per week to establish the necessary patina, followed by 2 hours of cleaning.

The bike needs to be photographed with bacon and eggs in the foreground and probably subject to an exhausta-pectomy.

When your leg is knitted together your bike and me , er er the person who ran it in, will not be able to get the smile off their face and the engine will be ripe for you to give it some pain with your Augsta and Ducati buddies.

Get well soon mate and good luck with the surgery.

Shit, Enoch. I wish you a speedy recovery and return to your bikes, mate. Tough one on the XDiavel but there is your motivation for a quick return!

I had my first ride out yesterday for a while - it was great to get out again.

Stunned to read this Enoch, I love to follow your exploits and breakfast photos, not to mention the bike porn.
You are certainly made of tuff stuff.
Wishing every success with your upcoming surgery, you'll be up and chasing the nurses in no time.

    Take it easy Buddy.

    Best regards,

    Brian.

[QUOTE=Enoch;5943737]Thanks for all the messages guys they’re much appreciated and give me a bit of a lift. Seems the surgery is going to be quite complicated and I’m going to get transferred to Liverpool for it. But they’ve said all being well it the knee should function as it did before. I’m still so annoyed with myself that I went for that overtake when I knew the lay-by was there. Just shows one bad decision can have dire consequences when it goes wrong..

We're just glad you're able to post, regret passes and hopefully you'll be back eating dodgy cafe fry-ups in the not too distant future.

Get well soon Andrew. Someone I know in a group died last weekend on an overtake. Be careful out there, makes me wonder if I should stop riding.

Sorry to hear Enoch - things can happen so fast on the roads (esp. when on a motorbike). Get well soon.

I've been invited to attend a (paid) rider research session in a couple of weeks by LJE research (https://ljeresearch.co.uk/riderresearch) on behalf of Triumph.

    Could be interesting.

The session seems to be focussed on changes to the Street Scrambler, but if the 1200RR comes up, then I'll be sure to mention it :-)

Especially when they ask “ does anyone here have a conflict of interest” as you step forward in your Norton T shirt, Norton jeans Norton boots and V4 keyring :)

Ps signed up for the survey, even if they didn't list my 1972 Honda and 1990 Kwak

Tight buggers at Norton haven't given me anything :-(

Apparently a few of the designers at Norton are ex-Triumph, but I guess that's no surprise

Very accomplished bike that. 70 mpg possible. My two mates own one each.
Only concern I had when I took a demo out last year, was the plank you sit on.

Can never adjust to an uncomfortable seat.

Here you go Lewie an Adventure Bike Day at the Ace Cafe

    https://london.acecafe.com/article/o...th-march-2022/

Its way to far for me to go ,but if you have ever considered leaving these fine shores on a bike then you should drop in on one of these days. Austin Vince is a round the world riders, as is Sam Manicom from memory.

The last Adventure weekend I attended had such a variety of bikes. A notable one being a genuine UK built Royal Enfield Bullit along with the lady who had done 100,000 plus miles on it.

Lastly Lewie I woudnt be too concerned about the warranty on your Tenere, there is a lad on the UKGSER forum who has posted a link for a Super Tenere that has just done 285,000 miles and is going strong

    Cool Update

So far so good, old knee joint (from 19 years ago) removed, broken pieces of bone removed and new knee joint welded in🤪 not sure what the procedure is called but the new knee is extended in some way to replace the bone that had to come out. It’s a pretty big op for someone without haemophilia so you can imagine it’s a lot more tricky and the potential for it to go wrong is much increased.

I went down to theatre at 1pm yesterday and they brought me out from the anaesthetic at 6:30pm. The pain was immense and they immediately got me on special K and then morphine, which I’m self administrating today with one of those pumps that lets you get just enough to take the edge off, so I’m comfortable enough at the moment.

Speaking with the surgeon🙌 He said that the op went as well as it could do, and better than predicted to himself. He said there is no reason why I shouldn’t be as good as before and it’s up to me now to put the work in and get the best possible from the new joint👍

So that’s about it for now, I apologies up front for rambling on, but a combination of being terrified that I could lose the leg, relief that I didn’t, lots of emotions and drugs and being tired means you lot will have to put up with it🤪🤪
