    I certainly do, it's just I only have one bike so I want one that covers a lot of options...

    In an ideal world I'd have 2 or 3...

    I didnt say better, but they look better and are lighter and far more usable and FUN off road.

    Again, can't argue, but like Range Rovers the nearest the vast majority of adventure bikes will ever get to "off road" is parking at the edge of Waitrose car park next to the verge. They provide luxurious transportation between beautiful locations, not off road at those locations.

    The modern equivalents of the XTs and DTs are more like the Honda CRF300 etc

    They are quite lovely, particularly for me in the 2022 Candytone Blue. I've seen a few of them out and about and in showrooms but my local showroom still* won't let you touch a bike never mind sit on it. I got chatting to a guy outside though who had one and he let me sit on his (no sniggering at the back!) and it felt 'right' to me i.e my bum hands, feet and head were all in the right place. That's enough to put it on the list of bikes I'd like to test at some point.

    It doesn't help that the big Kawasaki Zs were my dream bikes as a teenager.



    (*to be fair I've not been in since lifting of last restrictions so maybe they've relaxed a bit.)

    Z900RS

    My son runs a 2018 Z900RS in in the Candytone Brown and Orange or " Jaffa " as it's more commonly known as.

    He's owned her from new and loves it to bit's. At 6'4" it fits him perfectly and uses it for commuting, touring and just bimblying about on.
    One draw back from new was the dreaded snatchy throttle response low down in the rev range, this due mostly to the Euro 4 emission strangulations.

    After the running in period we fitted fitting an Akrapovic header set up and Yoshimura Cyclone end can and he had it remapped and setup by Jordan M/C's in Bookham using the Woolich ECU Flash and Dyno Tune, this has transformed the riding experience.

    Agree 100%
    Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess, but sadly there are very, very few bikes manufactured these days that are actually lookers.

    I present to you the Husqvarna 701e
    Good looking, light at circa 145kg and powerful -min 73bhp before mods and with world class suspension and brakes
    Ride one then tell me a 1979 xt500 is more fun I can recommend one, laugh out loud fun.
    I can accept that a “McQueen husky 400 desert racer” looks nice though, as in the film.
    The little 450 is a lot of fun too

    This post has, of course, got me looking at Husqvarnas on AutoTrader.

    Interested that this 2019 Vitpilen 701 (https://www.autotrader.co.uk/bike-de...02107235379959) has been well looked after and a great bike, but in its mere 2 years of life has required a new crank, gearbox, tank and wiring loom...

    they are a little idiosyncratic and require proper maintenance
    Eg for an oil change that could properly be done every 2k miles you’ll need 50 quids worth of top quality oil and a filter kit-2 filters and 2 screens and good torque wrench skills at least another fifty….
    Problems likely to occur if corners are cut…

    And most here, are merely adding bling, and justifying the £500 with ‘it’s a gnat’s fart lighter’. You need to either replace the entire exhaust, or for the most bang-per-buck - fit Carbonfibre wheels. Anything else is just ‘slightly lighter bling’.

    Most ‘adventure bikes’ are great unless you are determined to prove that they can’t do what some makers claim. I’ve clocked up 55,000 miles on a 2006 and 2010 R1200GSA, and found it great for going around the houses, on work assignments, and annual holidays to South of France and riding the roads in the Alpes. If you appreciate what their forte is - they are fantastic. There IS a reason why the R1200/R1250 GS/GSA is a best-seller.

    totaly different bike and use,it looks like any other bike of that design/type to me.

    for me its the XT500 its about soul as much as anything else with bikes for me.

    Oh the fun we had riding over the tank tracks of Tidworth and Soltau on B40s

    Without checking I seem to recall that they’re something to do with KTM….

    To cut a long story short my 1290 superduke was my very best street bike ever but at the same time spent 4 months of its first 12 off the road in an unmendable state until a complete rewire of the bike had taken place.

    Has tainted my love and trust for the brand a bit tbh.

    Husquvarna are owned by KTM and the Vitpilen is basically a 690 Duke with clip-on bars and different bodywork.

    It's disappointing that everyone I know that's had a KTM has had a similar experience. Not necessarily wiring, but various reliability problems.

    But all said that when the bikes were working they were awesome

    Shoei heads up

    these Shoei dark tint pinlocks are not made anymore (only clear) I had to hunt to find one theres a few left.

    In extreme sun I use one with my dark visor (I always have a clear visor and clear pinlock with me which I can change in a minute) the diabettes/sun burns my eyes otherwise.

    Let's start the week with a dumb question but...
    Is Pinlock itself a standard? Obviously visors are helmet specific but would a 'Shoei' pinlock insert fit my Bell pinlock helmet/visor and vice versa?

    I bought a Shoei transitional Visor last summer, it's brilliant, on overcast days it just tints slightly and the more light you get the darker it goes, obviously at night it's completely clear.

    My take is the pinlock inner is bespoke to the helmet visor. There is a small adjustment on them but not much.

    I have one of those as well,I need all the options.

    I dont use it at night its not as clear as a clear visor.


    A dark tint in a clear visor enable you to carry one visor as you can remove it if it gets dark and then fit a clear pinlock.

    Orange is good for dull days improving the contrast.

    I've had a couple of recent KTMs one of which was a 690 duke.

    The 701 is a derivative of the 690 with the post-2016 single cylinder.

    Supposed to be a great bike and I've not had a lot of problems with KTM's (had more with Yamahas.)

    My 690 was loads of fun and the lightweight meant it could make a rubbish rider like me look good round corners.

    Certainly not the Arai ones as they have several versions depending upon visor (due to the eyebrow vents) so I expect you will need a pinlock for your Bell helmet.

    Andy, enjoy your new bike.

    Tony, did you ride the Tiger?

    I have and its quite the techno journey. Screen is huge, although the revcounter is weird, to say the least. Being able to change everything from the little joystick is amazing and it's a very comfortable bike. I am 6ft and with the seat in the high position worked just great.

    Liked the cruise control as well, and on the M4 average speed check zone, could ride the bike just with using the left hand switch gear, altering the speed to slow down, speed via via the 'toggle' switch!.

    Andy, I went on a factory tour at CCM not long ago, and I'd highly recommend that you do the same. You can swing a leg over every model, and go into detail about the customisation options available. They're in Bolton.

    Good to know, Sam. The test ride was postponed until next Saturday due to rain - I'm doing the Tiger in the morning and a Multistrada in the afternoon.

    I tried to buy a CCM flat tracker once but the Salesman was utterly useless, just ignored direct questions and went off on his own little journey in each email, I've dealt with more professional 18 year old kids who work in PC world, I gave up in the end and bought a Triumph
