. I had the pipes polished on mine, made a massive difference visually IMO, and the full Termis I had made a massive difference aurally as well!!

As confirmed by Enoch, it is the 1198 (Gen 2).
I find the riding position comfortable, with a little stretch to the bars (but not too much) and 'traditional' peg positions so my weight can be transferred through the legs rather than coccyx. I put the touring seat on in anticipation of doing some long rides into Europe last year - that didn't happen and so I might put the 'proper' seat back on.
I like the 1260 but, perhaps irrationally, some little styling issues put me off, like the pillion pegs and the unnecessary gap between the radiator and oil cooler designed to collect dirt from the front wheel (something Ducati designed out on the XDiavel)...and the 1198 has more than enough performance for me; a good half-days riding reacquainted me with some muscles that hadn't been used for some time!I loved my Diavel, had the same Stealth Black. I quite like the subdued appearance of the naturally discoloured pipes, more than polished or coated - they are there but not in your face. I've been tempted to stick Termis on, but the cost is prohibitive and the good folk of rural towns and villages would probably erect barriers across the roads

I tested the 1260S (with Termis fitted) a while back. Absolute beast of a bike, but also surprisingly easy to ride. My best (comfy) bike was a BMW R100RS with a slightly higher smoke black screen the bike was Smoked Red. Got wrote off when a guy pulled out in front of me.

Got out for an hour today. Just kept local, getting used to the bike.
Lessons start 2 weeks today and mod 1 is in 4 weeks.
Gonna try and get out for an hour or so every day or two, then build up the time out from there. Hopefully a few weeks and I should be able to manage 2 to 3 hours out comfortably.
On another note,, looks like I have found a solution to taking my walking stick with me. Gonna try my idea out tomorrow.

Can I just ask if the reflector was bought separately from/in addition to the tail tidy? Yes, the reflector... I found it in my garage. I think it was off an old push bike. I modified the bracket slightly and then drilled a hole through the number plate to attach it. I know most people don't bother but I thought I'd stick it on.
Chris, I know it seems basic, but start with the simple stuff, remembering to cancel your indicators—- major fail. Also look at your position on the road. New learners often hug the left hand curb, along with all the crap that sits there it also harbours the largest pot holes. So adopt a more assertive position. Ive said it before Roadcraft the Police Riders handbook is still the best read a new or mature biker can invest in.

I changed the exhaust the other day to a ZARD system.. sounds great:) My hideous rack will be coming off when I pick up a standard pillion hand rail from somewhere too.

They are the Triumph indicators. A fair bit smaller than the standard ones but still big enough to be seen, I think.
I agree, the combination of the rack and tail tidy doesn’t really work. I also removed the hand guards from mine - even though they do a good job, I just feel they look too modern for the bike.
As for the Zard, I’ve heard they’re quite loud... :)

Really enjoyed it. Knew what to expect from the engine since it shares similarities to the one thats in my 2008 Speedmaster, but being in a lighter package it really was fun.
Now got me thinking whether the sell my CB750 cafe that I spent all winter building!

Been out this morning on the xjr, and have just renewed my insurance for next year. A whole 86 fully comp!
Got chatting with Mr been everywhere, seen everything, done everything. He was struggling to fasten his magnetic tank bag on his pulling seat even though hed been given four cable ties and it was so simple a five year old could do it. All whilst telling tales about the time, as a courier, hed transported a Kwak 750 engine (gt750 shaft) on the back of his cx500!

Nowt wrong with those two Chris, the GS310 is far superior to the bigger ones off road and theres a lot more fun to be had thrashing a smaller bike than cruising on a larger one. Mines an XJR1300 so old school big and heavy but Im considering getting an XJR400 to go with it. Or even a KTM390 Duke to use on the quieter, narrower roads.I know they are not up there in class like most of the bikes on here but I am really happy with my two.

I agree I am not sure it's a good look either. It also looks more vulnerable, although that's probably a trick of my mind.
To be where it is, it would need to be smaller, which may not be an option in this country.

Its at the legal minimum size for a UK plate with 5 digits..its not vulnerable though so Im not worried about that.
The fitting brackets etc are from a French company..

After a couple of earlier missed opportunities, I finally got to blow the cobwebs away yesterday with a quick blast down to my cricket club for a bit of pre-season.
It was great to be back out on two wheels again...roll on (a more normal) Summer!

I'd recommend the Shido batteries. Fitted one on the Tiger last year. Well the Yuasa was 9 years old. Saves 4kg in weight (5.2 to 1.2kg) and spins much better than the Yuasa ever did. Just have to be a little more careful in the colder weather - I turn ignition on and leave the headlight on for 30 seconds or so to warm the battery before starting.
Had a ride down to Dungeness today - it was lovely sunny day, but the wind was biting:
Bunged a new rear tyre on my bike.................
Found out the secret of doing it yourself - put the tyre in a cold frame with the sun beating down on it - must have been about 45C deg. Went on a treat!
Closed the laptop early this afternoon and headed for the Cotswolds
Treated the bike to a well earned wash when I got home. Dust and chain oil now gone!
