My New Year resolution lasted 29 days.
Oh well!!!
Tomorrow is my 60th, which after last years events, I never thought I’d see..
But here we are thanks to the fantastic work of the NHS still enjoying life.
My sister has just been around with my cake which one of her friends has made. I thought I’d show it off before it gets cut up for tomorrow’s ride out (got a few mates joining me for a day riding around snowdonia)
With working headlights on top. Impressive!
Many happy returns Andrew.

Son has booked his bike bike training and test for next month.
Oh heck.
Looks like it's time to let the baby GS go, it's been a great little starter bike for me.
Just ordered one of the new Triumph Tiger 660 Sport.
Should be here in 2 to 3 month.

This is supposed to be torqued up, not finger tight. Who knew?
Not the man in the Triumph factory it would appear!
The torque settings should be
Adjuster nut - 15Nm
Lock nut - 40Nm
Top nut - 90Nm
They were
Adjuster nut - finger tight
Lock nut - finger tight
Top nut - just a bit more than finger tight but not much.
Just added this to the garage.
Got it with the Sat-nav and full Vario luggage.
Just waiting for the next couple of free dry days and i'm off!
That’s quite scary Gyp! It’s bad enough when us mortals don’t use a torque wrench never mind a factory. Be interested to hear what the dealership say as I’m assuming you will be having words?
To be fair, it was the dealership that highlighted me to the issue when it was in for service, but they couldn't check/adjust because the way I'd mounted the GPS means it's not possible to get to it without a fair amount of dismantling which they were reluctant to do.
They said they'd be happy to put the rectification work through Triumph as a warranty job as long as I took the nav off to allow them access.
I decided that, because of the fannying about with my custom brackets and wiring, it would be easiest for me to do it and let them know the outcome, which I have done.
I knew it would be my riding like a stunt god that was the issue!
From what I can tell, as the tab is there to stop the washer rotating, not the nuts (its tang goes simply into the stem), its role is to stop the 15Nm nut being further tightened as the 40Nm nut is done up.
I don't think the tab washer is adding safety at all, just reducing the chance of over tightening the bearings
The 40nm is enough to lock the lock but to the adjusting nut. With the top yoke and top nut above this, it’s in no danger of becoming dangerous.
The worst you’ll notice is a bit of knocking through the bars and the steering being a little twitchy.
Still, it’s better to do it yourself then you’ll know it’s right. I personally don’t trust maintenance of my bikes to anyone but me.

I did 900 miles last week🤪.. since splashing out (see what I did there) on new Rukka kit I’ve enjoyed riding in the rain. Might seem like madness but the roads around N Wales are all but dead in the winter and the views and scenery just seems more vivid..
Won’t ride if it’s really windy, and I won’t go out if there’s a chance of ice, but a bit of rain isn’t an issue👍👍
The gloves are good, but not the warmest, I have the Virium and the Apollo, the Virium aren’t leather but have knuckle protection, and are 100% waterproof the Apollo are leather and extremely comfortable and waterproof, but way 2 expensive at over £200. I got mine from Motolegends for £108 which was a bargain
My mate has the Rukka lobster claw style, and although they look a bit odd he swears by them for warmth and waterproofness.
Enoch we drove ( wifes MX5) over to Blaenau Ffestiniog on Tuesday of this week over the tops. The missus made exactly your comment, “ this is what wales looks like without tourists”. We literally drove f9r 15/20 mins without seeing a soul, then maybe a couple of cars then another 15 mins of sublime roads.
